View Full Version : Revo or AMD?

Hello peeps,

I've finally decided to get tuned (after 5 months!) but I can't decide whether to go Revo or AMD. AMD being almost £300 less is very tempting but Revo's promise of being more refined and easily removable is also tempting. I just can't decide! Which is the best all-rounder?

I'm going to try and get it done tomorrow so who ever can do it tomorrow will probably win my business unless theres a definite better choice.

So which?

(Totally standard Leon Cupra 20VT)

i went revo,as its easy to use/install,dealers are spot on and theres many of them all over the UK.
get a 4 bar fuel pressure regulator and get the 4 bar program.
my octavia vrs is pushing out
221.9 bhp
257.1 lb ft of torque
grin factor is good.
btw NOT saying don't go AMD,your money your choice.

want it done tomorrow? call a revo dealer - easy peasy

something variable / switchable & non invasive has to be key

Revo it is then... If I don't get it done tomorrow I'll proabably change my mind again. Not sure about the 4bar. How much more is it? How much does it affect MPG? I currenly average 27.7MPG.

i paid 30 quid for the regulator, not sure on 4 bar program price .
fuel econmy isn't an issue for me,if i want to save a few quid on petrol i'll turn the revo off.
i very often get 29-30 in mine when taking it steady, when i'm not i don't tend to look at the mpg gauge.
you can get the regulator at a later date and just get a free upgrade to 4 bar when you are ready. good luck ;)

the 4 bar price is the same as a 3 bar & is a 'free' upgrade should you get the 3 bar & then change your mind

you don't need to get the 4bar FPR when you get mapped.

you can buy it later (30-50quid), and then go back to any revo dealer for an upgrade to the 4bar map. As i understand it, the result from that will be a bit more power, so its probably worth it for the money it costs.

This upgrade should be free I believe, but some dealers /may/ charge a small admin free for doing this. Most wont though :)

Well I did it I got Revo'd! Excellent! Even better then I thought it would be. Allot more power, smoother through the gears up and down and it sounds so much better. I can really hear the turbo now where as before it was just a faint wistle and engine sounds meatier too. Didn't go for the 4bar as they wanted £100 + fitting for it. The only thing was there attitude stunk alittle considering they were about to take almost £800 of me but then they were busy. Anyways I'm very pleased!

Just gotta sell my girlfriends christmas present to pay for it!!

Had my leon cupra revo'd 2 months ago. felt the £60 for the fuel pressure upgrade was worth the extra 13bhp. Any other mods planned?

Which dealer did you use.....??

Went to Regal Autos in Southampton (Vauxhall people). Blonde girl answering the phones was nice but the others just wanted my money and out of there! At no time was I asked if I wanted an SPS or 4bar, get the impression they don't know allot about Revo??? Anyway I'm gonna stop moaning now, just been for another spin and just can't believe how restricted these cars are. OK it's only doing about another 30BHP but its difference in Torque after 2000 RPM, I was getting TCS lights in 3rd on a dry road!!

Just need air filter, bigger brakes and maybe suspension kit now oh yeah and DIY 4bar! Cheers saul!

Kev,

If I said that James at JBS is a grumpy bugger and is the sole reason why I'm financially up the creek (nothing to do with my own lack of self control), can you Revo my wife's Polo for nowt?

Not all of the 210/225 VW Group engined cars come with 4bar FPR's however they do all have different injectors to the lower spec'd 150/180 engines so don't require/benefit from an FPR upgrade.

i was told my 210hp s3 had a 4 bar fpr and that all s3's have 4 bar fpr??

I thought the same, but I checked mine (210 LCR) last night (?), and it's a 3 bar.

Kev said "no benefit - bigger injectors". I guess if the injectors aren't "maxed out" like the 150/180's then increasing the fuel pressure won't make a usable difference. I guess that they could get more fuel out of the 3bar FPR if they needed to because of the bigger injectors.

I may be wrong but I would of thought a 4bar FPR would be benifical anyway. Higher pressure behind an atomizer will provide finer and more controlled fuel injection (Thinking about the water gun I owned when 8)? With the 150/180's this seems to provide a smoother power delivery (looking at graphs) so an upgrade to 4bar may be well worth the £50 odd quid however I don't know how this effects the map? Exactly how dangerous is lean burn anyway?

This sort of thing pi$$es me off,i dont even have revo or amd for that matter,i have apr software, scaremongering just gets mapping a bad rep, regardless of branding,i wish certain tuners would not do this, and people wonder why seat uk,wont warrent claims etc :( less of the dissing and more of the FACTS would help the tuners as a whole, and us the end user :) (think what i trying to say throw enough sh*t and some will stick :thumbd: )

The values a remap sets, are Requests. Not hard set things.
ECU in the car over rides them if it thinks they're not safe and puts car into safe (limp) mode.

10 points for a good attempted troll though :)
