Well, having just had me first service....was talking to a mechanic there and he says a guy at PI Springs has bought a Cupra and stuck 18's on with a 25mm drop too..using PI springs funnily enough!!!

It doesn't RUB according to the mechanic...bit its even tighter than mine with 17's!! How you can get it to be tighter on the back wihtout rubbing is beyond me....maybe a little arch bending is needed....but just to let you know...18's are definitely possible for those who think size is important!!!!!

Edit function does work mate, cause its been corrrected. If something doesnt seem to appear hold shift down and do a page refresh that way it forces the browser to update from the web server, rather than using the cache.

By the way your club oettinger link doesnt work yet http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif i guess it still isnt off the ground.

lee surely if you get 7x18 wheels then the widht will be the same as if you were fitting 17's along with 35 profile tyres is the wheel itself that much larger than a 17(i know an inch) theres a mk2 20ltr 8v in shrewsbury thats had em on for yonks

Bigger aint better though.... Taller c of g and taller FD ratio.
Must look like its on stilts... even if lowered 25mm (which is'nt much is it)
Tyres must cost a fortune.
16's are a good compromise although Seats 6 inch wide rims are too narrow for my liking. 7.5 x 16's would suit me better with 205-45-16 tyres. I know that setup works a treat.
195's on 6" rims just does'nt feel right to me.
I will try my Jetta 7.5 x 16's on the Ibiza sometime to see what it looks/handles like then.
It needs some suspension now for sure. - exploring the handling now I've got some miles on it. (1500 and rising)

Yep....the handling according to the mech who test drove it was absolutely dire!!

It was buggered......

AND i can tell you...bigger rims affect 0-60 QTR mile times......i swear having 17's on mine is holding me back on stonking 0-60 times...or maybe i'm just crap at it!!

Still...tyre cost issues....handling....ain't worth it if you ask me!

Will put some 16's on next year...try some 0-60 compo's.....and see what happens!

I use my 15" rims for acceleration. Makes a difference in the final drive ratio. Best handling is on 16's I think. Excellent compromise.

I'm a bit confused... Why does having 17" wheels negatively affect your 0-60 times?

I can understand if the rolling radius was different it would affect your Final Drive ratios but with the lower profile tyres the rolling radius should be almost identical (< 1% differnt I think.).

Is it because the harder ride makes the car jumpy over the bumps resulting in less traction???

I'm about to buy a new Ibiza and I need to know where to go for wide 16"s or 17". The main priority is acceleration/handling not just looks.

stand a 17" wheel next to a 16" one, with 205-40-17 against the 195-45-16 and all will be revealed. It is much more than 1% believe me.
My preference would be to stick with 16" but find a wider rim circa 7.5" wide with 205-45 rubber.

If you#re going to stick with 16s, put OZ super T's on...can't go wrong with that!

or for 17s that i'm putting on, use Mille Miglia Actions...!
