Hey Guys,

Hope all is well. I have a question (just for a change lol).

the ABA 8v VW engines come in 2 forms from what i hear. The OBD1 with forged rods and crank and oil squirters and the OBD2 which have the above bits cast and has no squirters.

I have a 95 gti cordoba and am wondering which of the 2 is going to be under the hood of mine. I'm hoping OBD1 as it sounds more attractive.

any info would be appreciated.

btw. do any of you know of a place on the web with this sort of technical information? What i have learned thus far has been from various forums and online auto parts stores.

ok it seems that pre 95 are obd1 and post 95 are obd2.

but it can go either way and is anyones guess when it comes to the 95 motors. haha, typical.

OK, i have now the information. Just in case anyone else is wondering..

My engine is most likely an OBD1. You can tell this by checking if there is a 3 wire lead running to a plug on the throttle body, and if you have an Idle Stabiliser Valve. Its a 1 1/2" diameter tube with a connector on one end and 2 hoses on the other located on the intake manifold just above your rocker cover (on a non xflow). On a US engine (xflow) it should be on the right hand side of the intake manifold.

There may also be a tag or plate somewhere in your engine bay saying whether or not it is obd1 or 2 compliant. Mine didn't have that tho.
