View Full Version : How often should paint cleaner be used?
What is the recommendation on how often the Swissol paint cleaner should be used? I now have 3 coats of Saphir wax which means it washes so easily and looks great, I assume the paint cleaner will strip this off.
The car is 9 months old and has had Swissol from new.
Any recommendations??

I also would like to know this as I have used the paint cleaner once when new, its had 3 coates of wax to date but now due to the LCR exhaust the bumper and boot need a clean to get the stain removed.

A paint cleaner should be used when the body work becomes oxidised. This is when it feels kinda rough even after cleaning, almost sand paper ish. If a car is regularly washed and waxed you shouldnt really need to use this.
But if you do feel then need, ensure u polish the are afterwards to restore the shine, and then apply extra wax in this area for protection.

Up to you, but a paint cleaner is a harsh product so will remove thin layer to remove oxidisation and will dull paint a little. Polish again is a removing agent but adds shine, wax then adds protective layers.
If it was me I would see if you could polish out any blemishes as its less harsh, if u cant polish it out then use the paint cleaner. But always remember to wax after.
To help prevent these things, when u wash your car, dry it off and leave it for an hour, then come out and touch the paintwork, if its losing its silk like feel u need to top the wax up, keeping the wax up to scratch means u should never really need to use the polishing products, but when u do it wont be as harsh because the contaminants will be stuck in the wax not the paintwork.
Thanks Dale,
Thats what I thought, as long as I keep the wax topped up shouldnt really need to use the paint cleaner.

If it's the standard Swissol cleaner fluid it's not a harsh product at all, more a pre-wax treatment than a paint polisher. They also do a medium and strong cleaner which are slightly abrasive.
"Cleaner Fluid
This paint preserving solution will nourish the paint with its ”heavy” polishing oils. The product does not contain abrasives. Swirl marks, light scratches, tar, tree sap and old wax are completely removed. Cleaner Fluid stops short of the underlying paint layer without scratching it. Apply before Swissol wax treatment. "
When I bought my paint cleaner, Oynx wax and other bits direct from Swissol, they said thet pain cleaner only ever has to be used once per year.
Since bying my Swissol, due to it beind so easy to apply, my car has about 10 applications on it (since about August). The protection it offers is very good, every time I wash the car (Meguairs shampoo), it comes up really beady!
Won't be applying anymore layers until Feb/Mar I imagine, let see how Swissol handles the grit this winter!!

Leave the Swissol Wax on over the winter, use the cleaner in the Spring IMO to clean back the layers and re-apply Swissol Wax after.
Use once a year unless you do a massive mileage IMO...

Basically it all depends on how often you actually use the car ,i would recommend topping wax up every quarter then do the full treatment once a year.
I went down to do dean at boxa net merc in black and it had layers and layers of wax on it you only had to touch it and it left a fingerprint but it was swirly underneath and looked terrible so i started again and the car came up trumps.
