View Full Version : New DV has put Octavia VRS in limp mode???

Just fitted my Forge DV to my VRS and all seemed to be fine, first 3 miles, spot on. Then it went all ropey, engine management light flashed and there is just no power. The light went off but i dont feel any turbo boost at all, there are no leaks form the pipework, what could it be? Please don't say its blown something???

I've refitted the original DV and also disconnected the battery, all to no avail, any ideas here? I've posted this at Briskoda too, just wondered if anyone had experienced similar? I have absolutely no idea as to what could have happened.
I have ordered a VAG COM kit but it wont be here for a few days, its booked in at dealers on Monday but that leaves me turboless all weekend (at least)

it ids the right way round? when i got my octy it was on the wrong way,not sure this would cause limp mode though

Even if it was on the wrong way it should work ok.

What rate spring is in the DV, if its too hard perhaps its not opening correctly and putting more boost pressure through the turbo than the ECU will allow, perhaps putting in an overboosting fault and pulling back to limp mode!?

It is a green spring, which is standard i believe. Should putting the old one back on have reset it from limp mode or does this have to be done at a dealers. Thanks for the replies

A battery reset should sort limp mode.

Tried that :( could i have really damaged something badly? It just seems so stupid, i cant see what has gone wrong at all... there are no lights on the dash now at all, surely if i had killed something (turbo??) i would have a warning light?

I'm sure it's something simple. I can't think that you can do that much damage just from changing the DV. You say you've checked the intercooler pipes?

Yeah, looked ok to me, but it got dark so i'll have a better look tomorrow... been looking forward to a thrash around this weekend, looks like i'll be saving the petrol after all :( would i hear it leaking if a pipe was split or not sealed?

I'd have thought you would hear a change in the noise from the turbo if there was a leak. If your few miles with the new DV were enjoyable ones a hose may have popped off or come loose, of it may just be coincidental. I'm no expert tho, just a thought.

Hope you get it sorted.

vac pipe on the top of the dv, make sure thats tight, new clip is best :)

Well all pipes are secure, just rechecked everything, engine sounds fine but just feels like there is no boost... :( i guess i'll have to wait until Monday to see what the dealer makes of it. I hope it is just a matter of clearing some faults! I'm afraid to put the Forge back on though in case this happens again. I'm having a remap in Jan so may get jabba to fit the DV for me just to be sure.
I just get the feeling that it is ok now as i dont get any warning lights but just needs to be reset somehow, at least that is what i am hoping :)

If the turbo was damaged or something really serious was wrong, would it show the engine management light still? All i got was about 20 seconds of it flashing before it went into this mode!
Just hoping for some reassurance before i go out and get wasted ;)

some other pipe or connector has been disturbed during the fit. dv can't do what you said.

Yeah, what people are saying is right, I've never heard or had any experience of an uprated DV causing any problems like this.

All conections are sound, i'll post back what they say from the dealers. Very odd this :(

Originally they said it was the MAF but..
Just an update. They fitted the MAF and now coil or coils showing a fault, so they are being replaced on Thursday. At least i will have a load of new bits on it Also gave me a 54 plate Occy 2 courtesy car without me asking. My VRS will seem fast when i get it back :)

bloody hell what was wrong with it?

Just a note Skoda UK will pay for all four coils to be replaced on your car regardless of age/mileage.

This applies to coilpacks that end in F.G and H

Coils that end in J,K and L are allready the latest spec and wont be part of this rework.

I asked them what was wrong with the Turbo and they just said if we aren't sure that it is 100% we fit a new one! Which is great if its under warranty, not so good if you take it in to be fixed and have to pay.

throw enough parts at it to fix a fault..
typically dealer!

easy when they dont have to pay for the bits cos they cant find a fault.
(thank goodness for warranties when they're typically ineptin finding faults)

Wish all dealer techs were of Techies caliber and enthusiasm.

I second that, its a shame Northampton is a bit far for me :(
