I know I am a Newbie but I was wanting to pick your Brains again ;) , with reguards to alloy wheel fitments. I have tried a few of the local Wheel dealers and had a varity of answers with reguards to tyre size.
So far I think I am going to go with a 17" wheel as the tyres seem to be cheaper and more readily availible. I quite like the Audi RS6 5 spoke replicas  . Any other suggestions of wheels ( pref. with a picture of the alloys fitted to a Alhambra/ Sharan would be appreciated).
But the main Issue is trye size, my Sharan is currently fitted with 15" Carat alloys with 205/60/15 tyres. But I have been advised to fit from a 215/45/17 to a 235/40/17 :-o . what would you guys recomend , bearing in mind the Sharan is an every day runner for me so it can't be to extreme.
Thanks
TAM
The world's your oyster on this one. A lot of VAG wheels fit.
Audi A4, A6, A8
New Golf
New A3
Altea/New Toledo
Lambo Murcielago (wrong spelling, but you know what I mean!)
As for tyres, I'd be sticking on 215/45/R17 or 225/45/R17s on. The reason being is that they're very common to get hold of. However, these tyres aren't cheap. On mytyres.co.uk, the cheapest 225/45 is the GoodYear Eagle F1 GSD3 (considered the best tyre out) is £89.90 a corner.
235/40/17 are wide as anything though, and could catch suspension cups. The tyres are about £10 a side more.
Hope that helps :)
toxxin - useful for me that one too TA!!!!

Does any one on the list have any problem with there insurance with reguards to changing there wheels. I would imagine that with the amount of auto stores selling wheel it would be a common mod but my Insurance seem to be taking the huff because I want to change the size to 17" nothing to outrageous and also have Mcguard thatcham locking nuts . They would not mind if I changed to any other 15" of any brand as my sharan come as std with alloys.
Anyone else with this problem or can recommend a different insurance company
Some insurance companies are stroppy about it, others don't care.
I'm with Elephant and they charged me £20 for my optional extras.
i remember seeing a sharan with some beauties on ,oetinger 5 spokes, they must have been at least 17's they look awesome.RSD are/were disbributers, not cheap judging by some of the oetinger kit,but good quality

Yeh seen them, deff not cheap though. I do like the 5 spoke design so far I thinks it is down to 17" RS6 5 spokes or TSW Reflex 5 spokes in a 17" . Just need to see what kind of deal I can get.
RS6s...no competition there!
had no trouble with my insurance company :) told them of the lpg conversion, the 17'' rims, the tinted glass and the dvd system, but havent yet told them about the coil over kit yet
if you go for the 17's stick with 225/45/R17s as thats the size used by Ford on their 17's and they recomend re-enforced with 17's
I'd use re-enforced what ever size you use... Its basically a van remember!! Mine run on re-enforce3d on 16 steels, because at the mo I cant be bothered to look hard for a set of alloys, but then I'd only want 16" rims, so I can just swop the tryes over...
ahh the old topic of re-enforced tyres on a Shalaxy! in all of the Ford tech info and publicity info I have, the only time I have seen re-enforced tyred mentioned is when using 17'' rims!

On my sharan the standard tyres are not re-enforced tryes and the alloy wheel guy I was talking to looked up the sharan in his book( with TUV approval) and there was no mention of re-eforced tryes needed , may be becuase mine is the 6 seater version ??

Maybe something to do with Age??? if you look at the new ones Galaxy/Sharan/Alhambra what tyres are fitted to them? - Mine came from the factory with the Michelin re-enforced tyres. Therefore I have stayed with them. Simple. Not puting my family at risk for a few quid extra per tyre... (If SEAT ships with the safer re-enforced tyre then I stay with that..)

Well thats me ordered my alloys  . I have gone for the RS6 rep in a 17" with 215/45/17 tyres  . I also got the wheel guy to double check about the reinforced tryes, and according to his TUV fitment book the pre 1999 Sharan going with the 17" wheel does not require the reinforced tyres are not required  . So seeing my Sharan has not got them the now I am going to go with regular tyres.

I love those wheels...I very seriously considered getting some replicas for my Ibiza, but I don't have the money and I have some other wheels now.
nice rims :) but Jeez! thats high! do you get nose bleeds up there! if you need a hand getting in I have a set of steps that I dont use you can have :roflmao:
next thing is to change out the side repeators to clear ones and the rear light units to Galaxy ones get rid of all that Orange!
I'll try and get a picture posted of it dropped when I manage to shrink one to the limit
