View Full Version : Which Cams
which would give the best results schrick 260/260 cams or just changing the inlet cam to a 268?
Mike.
Thta's a very broad question and you'd have to find out the mods done on those respecive cars. Glen/EssThree's motor made 190 plus on Star's rollers with a 268in and various other mods. I've not seen any plots or claimed figures from a pair of 260s with as high a peak number (if that's what you want).
Edit - I'm guessing this is for your ABF since you didn't specify
yes its a abf engine and so far its totally standard.

do the head at the same time to make th emost of the cams..
on std management your choice is limited to mild cams..
Thought sean martin tried a pair of 260's with a head ????
Cheers

I think he did, the plots are on one of the RR reports on the main page. Pair of 268s doesn't go thru emissions on standard management, not sure why exactly or whether you can read in to that 268/276 would not pass either. Glen's car seemed very well prepared over time and came out with a stonking 190+ and good torque too on the 268in on standard management. I've got a rough 'spec' of his engine/mods on email somewhere.

how much would that cost?
how much would that cost?
Depends if you remove and refit yourself, if so say £300 and upwards or from double that if paying somebody else.

Thats Right, I do have this set up. Last time on the rollers she made 194 bhp. I'm not saying that this is the set up to go for though. It all depends on where you want your power band to be. 268's are ok but not as road friendly as 260's.
sean martin is that all you have do to the engine, just cams and port and polished head?
Dont mention the nitrous.....:)

Ah yes 4got bout the nitrous - Thats just a cheap way to break 220 bhp. Zippy, along with the head and cams I have got a pipercross filter, 4-1 tubular manifold, de-cat, stainless exhaust and a re-map

Got the manifold from TSR. Its the 4-1 stainless job that is sold to fit the mk2 golf 16v. Engine mount mods will be required to make the manifold fit. This may still be your only option, cus as far as I know (knew at the time) there is no manifold on the market for the 16v ibiza.
Problem with getting a tubular manifold for the ibiza is in 2 areas:
1. Most tubular 16V manifolds are for LHD cars, the TSR one is one of the (very) few about for 16V's. Awesome also do one. LHD manifolds do not fit - they catch the steering column and burn through the rubber gaitor.
2. The 16V manifolds mentioned above are made for 16V Mk2 golf. If you have a 1.8 16V ibiza it will fit straight on (but the Cat willno longer fit without some fabrication and even then this wont be easy). If you have a 2.0 16V then the engine is 17mm taller than a 1.8 and without modding the engine mounts, it will hit the bulkhead. Same Cat problems as for 1.8.
So its possible but you will likely have to do away with the Cat.
Supersprint used to do a 4-2-1 manifold that would meet up with a Cat but it used to only be LHD and IMO a bad design anyhow. This could probably be modded by an exhaust shop to fit a rhd car and may be cheaper than getting one scratch built - probably upwards of £350 and I have been quoted £600 for a pukka one.

I 'think' TSR are now doing a 4-1 manifold for the 'tall-block' engine, i.e. the 2.0 16v.
Not 100% sure on it though, might be worth a quick phone call.....

if considering cams, consider www.catcams.be and have a browse... Good units, well priced and available from badger5 ;) :)
