View Full Version : Door card removal guide...done in 2 minutes!
1) There are 3 torx bolts at the bottom of the door card - undo these.
2) There are 2 big philips bolts behind the grab handle cover - undo these. On the drivers side they might be obscured by the electric window switch...pop this out upwards once you've undone the screws and disconnect the lead.
3) Undo all the clips around the door card by getting the bottom of the card and pulling it outwards. Take care with the clips, don't be too harsh with them!
4) Bash the door card from the bottom so that it comes apart from the window seal.
5) Undo the Door handle cable and the mirror adjuster lead.
6) Done!

It really is easy.
Just be careful when you finally release the card from the door, the wires behind are quite tight (especially the ones to the alarm LED by the locking pin). Don't yank it off too hard otherwise you could rip the wires out or break a connector.
Pics? No.
I've just done that so people don't ask me again. As Lee says, it's a piece of piss, and we both did it without any guides, etc.

Didn't mean to sound like an arse, just saying that it's such common sense, taking this guide out with you will make it even easier. :)

What about the rear on a 3 door?
1) There are lots of big round cap thingies underneath the rear bench and backrest...unscrew these with your fingers. I found it a lot easier by removing the rear bench, so do that!
2) Once these are all done, get the corner nearest the door and gently unpop the clips. Doing this too quickly will break the speaker grille.
3) Once you've got all these undone, pull card out and chuck outside.

So what's behind the rear panels then Tom ?
Lots of solid foam around the wheel arch and a crap speaker installed by someone who's completely useless at using a rivet gun.

LOL
Apart from the foam around the arch, is there a fair amount of bare side panel that could benefit from some sound deadening ?
Indeed there is...theres lots of bare metal in there that could benefit from a lot of Dynamat!
Here is a link to some one who has modded the speakers etc on his car, sorry it's all in german and takes a while to load but worth it:Door panels etc. (http://alien80.kicks-ass.net/)

Well I've just finished the Muddyboots / Toxin door treatment. On the passanger side door to get arid of that Vibration. Thanks Muddyboots for the "foam behind the window motor" tip. Not a rattle now!! Any volume and any base, no annoying vibrations or rattles, just get sound distortion .
For any one like me who thinks this sounds hard to do. Its really....really easy. Just follow these good folks guides and go slow. Should take approx.........2 min. lol (well at least the first time. 30 secs the second. one clip fell out and only noticed it after the card was back on, lol)
Think I might do the whole door in the dynamat if any one can tell me the cheapest place to buy it? And now of course I have to do the drivers side!

Glad to be of service :)
I bought my Dynamat from Car Audio Direct (http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk), but the 3-for-2 offer on rolls of Dynamat Extreme has ended now, they're back to £19.99/roll plus postage.
I used 3 rolls to do both front doors some pics here if you haven't already seen (http://muddyboots.fotopic.net/c311078.html).
Might be worth asking in the ICE forum to see if anyone knows of a cheaper supplier.

The squicking sound when reversing is a "defect"... since a component from the rear brakes is missing! Seat has identified it and, at least here in Greece, you can go to your local dealer and ask for these things to be fitted (i don't know how they are called in English but they have to do with balancing the weights). Here it is free of charge.. and it only takes 5 minutes.. :)
hey thx for this guide, took both my door panels off last night and ripped the boot to bits too, took me about 2 hours all in, but that included the blu-taking too and foaming, job well worth doing too.
the only difference was on my mk 4 cupra tdi there are only 2 torx screws at the bottom of the door
the hardest part was removing the window switch panel on the drivers side

Ne ideas guys on how to remove the actual cloth part from the door card for a retrim, removing the door card is easy enough to do, just need to know how to remove the cloth part.
Ibiza4284
22-05-2005, 21:47
its glued on isnt it ?
It is yeah, but i have found a guide on how to remove the cloth, i guy on another site dont this on a mrk4 golf and it worked really, the mrk 4 golf is pretty similiar to the mrk 4 golf i would of thought:
1. remove door card from car
2. using a suitable tool carfully chip away/cut the melted plastic tabs from around the insert. Theres about twenty five of these. Be careful not to press to hard into the insert backing as it will crush.
3. Give the door card a good wipe down to remove any risidue; plastic swarf
4. Once the insert has been removed, run a 4-6mm bead of clear silicone mastic around the rim of the door card.
5. carfully press the new insert onto the door card, the previously chipped/cut plastic clips should be reused as an alignment guides.
6. let cure over night by placing the card face up with a block under the insert to raise it slightly. I found a shoe box suitable.
7. next day refit, and looks good as before as the insert is held in place with two screws and the card surround with five plastic plugs and two torx screws.
all you need now is a new insert
good luck
the mrk 4 golf is pretty similiar to the mrk 4 golf i would of thought
I would've thought so too! :roflmao:
uh whats the door card, and why would you take it out? dont know anythin bout it

I got the doorcard off no bother, only struggle was the window switch cable, which in the end i left attatched and had my grandad support the doorcard while i secured all the loose wiring !
The driver side is rattling now, so wouldnt mind a bit more detail on how to unplug the cable?
Is there a clip? does it just pull out?
Cheers
From memory there is a clip that you squeeze which allows you to pull the plug away. But it has been a while since I did mine.

hi guys i am told that for best results i need to take the inner panel off, but its easy to smash the glass doing this.
any tips for removing it? does it come off clean or are there bits that hang around connecting it to the outer door?
better to do glass up or down?
ta!
ps. when i drill (?) the speakers out, whats best to fix them back in with, nut & bolt & washers?
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b164/quartzpb/card.jpg
Bolts around the edges, undo these, and you need to disconnect the window motor, which is just above the speaker. Unclip all the wires too.

thanks. I've asked a dealer or two to get me prices now anyway - I would like to think I can repair the current one, but there is a very deep, nasty scratch in it, that I don't think I'll be able to get out. Might have to try the hot-air-gun approach...

Maybe a car breakers will be able to help you...Not sure about just being able to get the speaker grill on it's own a quick call to a dealers parts guy will answer that one. You ,might want to get some of the door card clips as they're easy to break.
On here people rave about Dave at Sere Motors(has his own thread) but I prefer to go into my local main dealer in person.
