Just noticed a strange mark on the side of my car, it looks like a water mark but wont rub or wash off.
The (water style) mark runs all the way down from the top of the rear window seal right down to the side skirt.
It appears to have damaged the paint leaving little crack like ridges.
I'll try and post a piccy tomorrow as my description is pretty cack.

I've noticed the same thing on mine, but fortunatley it hasn't damaged the paint work yet.
When I wash the car, it seems like the water gathers in the corner of the window and then runs down the bodywork. When I wipe it off, the cloth is black, looks like it's picking up some of the rubber from the seal.

That does look quite bad Martyn. Andy is right water does gather in the corner of the window but shouldn't really effect the car like it has yours.
To me it looks like some kind of solution is mixing with the water which is causing the mark. Have you used any sealant on the window ?

marty, it looks like water has gotten under the clear coating that protects the paint, basically the same problem most people have had with the water getting into the 16v alloys and making them look dodgey!!
tried a bit of t-cut on it?, nowt to lose
