I'm looking at ordering a Ibiza Cupra soon and was wondering what kind of MPG people were getting out of them on average. I've got a 91J Golf GTi 16V and I'm averaging 25/26 MPG with a mixture of nice and nasty driving. Driving around town, sometimes goes as low as 16, but being nice (which is hard) can get it to 35. Is the figure quoted of 35.8MPG combined a realistic number?

I wouldnt worry about mpg id just get a cupra and drive it you wont regret it! You have to put petrol in any car just this one might cost a bit more than some, but once you fall in love with it you wont even care about mpg.

I get between 28/31 on average - that's driving 10 miles to work in the morning at 40/60 and then some stop start traffic, with the same on the way home, plus a bit of sad boy traffic light slaying every now and then and a blast or two on the weekend. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

I drove a 100 mile round trip on the weekend at speeds approx 60/70 on A roads for most of it. Got 37 mpg! Doesn't happen often though.
It costs me 34 quid to fill it up on Optimax and I normally get about 280-300 miles out of a tank without playing too much.

A month of playing got me 225 miles! http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/frown.gif

Cheers
Andy

Around 32mpg going back and forward to work is what my Ibiza Cupra gets according to the on board computer. This is mainly sitting at steady 80mph on motorway but includes some town driving as well. Best I've had is average 46mpg over 100 mile trip, but that was steady 45/50mph down country roads following my dad in his Honda Civic... http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/mad.gif
I think it's a pretty good compromise between performance and economy.

Sounds as though it can vary quite drastically!

From £40 of Unleaded, I can get between 300 and 350 miles from my Golf. Does anyone have a figure that they can compare to this for their Ibiza Cupra?

Get the thing chipped, uprate the brakes and sort the handling out properly and MPG will be the last thing on your mind http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/wink.gif

200bhp + AP Racing brakes + Bilstein Susp' setup + a few other little odds and sods = http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif

The little beezer only has a 45ltr tank... Takes some getting used to after my A6 Audi which had 90ltr tank.
Kinder on the wallet to fill, but more frequently feels worse than it is I suppose.
Golf has a bigger tank does'nt it? 60ltr? perhaps?

Takes about £32 to fill tank after warning light comes on and that gets about 270 miles in the Ibiza Cupra 20VT before the light comes on again. Does depend on driving circumstances though.

I am about to get rid of the Golf and it does about 32 MPG on good driving days but can go as low as 17 on a silly day. I guess that it depends on your journey and how you drive the car.

I dont do many miles through the week and you cannot do more than about 6 mph in London, but on a weekend it's time to drive it!

Soon to be ex golf driver!

On the run to trax, i got 33/35 mpg (I wasnt hanging around either)

If i go out and put me foot down on a proper drive through t'country, i get about 20.

Use Optimax though, i've found it to be a lot better on pick up.

You made the better choice, just watch that rear end!!!

Ok, sounds more economical than my Golf. That should tip the scales when trying to convince my mother of the purchase. I know, it's a sad case when you have to convince your mother about buying a car, but she thinks I should be saving for a house. I can't she treats me to good at home and it's cheaper. I say, get the car and have some fun while I still can.

As anyone else got any tips on convincing the parents?

Also, tips on convincing them that importing is a safe option.

Please help, as I'm desparate for an Ibiza Cupra!

I am in the same position but I have to convince the girlfriend...not the parents!

Tip for that, say its all lifes education and that you need to have the car to have a laugh and find your way in life and if they fall for that crap your okay!

I am too hunting for a Cupra...I have the money but do not know where to get it from.....import, online...dealer ex demo! http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/confused.gif

Well, someone must be knicking my petrol overnight while my car is stopped..!! lol

I get an average of 27mpg. I drive a round trip of 24 miles per day (work)which involves 50% open road at average 50mph and then inner city traffic (urban) and I get nothing like what the figures quote for the *extra urban.

I do drive my car fairly 'solidly' and I know where the accelerator is.. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/wink.gif hehe, but I don't kaine it that much just when it is safe and I feel the need (like when numpty w*nkers in Corsa's sit at the lights wanting to race you.. errrr NO..!! THEY CANNOT WIN! they just don't get it that I have a 156hp beast sat under the bonnet not a 1.4litre corsa sri style affair..!!lol).

Oh well.. petrol smetrol.. don't worry about mpg.. just get the car.. drive it well and you will be rewarded with a wry grin on your face every time you open the throttle and hammer it past someone on a country road. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/wink.gif

If you can, get an ex demo, this has had time to loosen up a bit and you will not lose as much money!!!

Back to the point, does having 'Auto' climate control on use your petrol like Air con does???

If yes, this will explain my crap MPG!!! http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/confused.gif

Depends on whether the AC is on in the display.
The minute it comes on you can see the revs drop if you're stationary and if you're moving it feels like you've driven into a 80mph head wind. Saps the power and drinks fuel.

In the hot weather I had mine set to LO most of the time and managed to get 230 miles out of a tank without pushing the car at all! http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/frown.gif

At the moment I've got mine set to about 23/25 degC on Auto, the aircon doesn't kick in at all unless the sun comes out in traffic. I just kick it back off.

Cheers
Andy

The thing is, by going for an ex-demo your in for a saving of around £1,000.

Personally I'd rather pay the extra cash and suffer any waiting list to get a brand spanking new one. I would never buy an ex-demo of any car.

They are in no particular order:

*Thrashed constantly.
*Mis treated by those who drive them (they don't own them so they don't care!
*Not "run in" properly (the one I test drove had covered just 56 miles and had just got back from an absloute caning before I took it out!)
*Taken home at weekends by staff for an absolute thrashing er........ I mean a good looking after!

Thanks but no thanks!

Fair points...there isnt that much of a saving either to be honest, I am looking at an X reg at the mo and they want 11.345k for it!

I think that the import or online one is looking good...however I am very much out of my depth with that and see risk attacjed to it?

Thanks for the honest info just makes me want one even more and I think I have a buyer for the golf as well!

Did you say that you can only get about 230 miles out of a tank of petrol????

I can get nearly 300 miles in my Pug 205 1.9 GTi (About £25 worth of petrol), and I red line it all the time!!!

How small is the tank on the Ibiza?

I pick my Ibiza up in the morning.... anyone want to buy a G reg Pug 205 1.9 GTi, er, with good fuel economy apparently? http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/wink.gif
One careful owner (Plus 4+ nutter owners! http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/tongue.gif )

Only with the aircon on full whack. I filled mine up this evening with 43litres of Optimax. I'd got 339 miles out of the last tank..... There's a Shell garage 1 minute from Amethyst if you want to fill yours up tomorrow?
