View Full Version : Will 7.5x16 wheels fit on an Cupra?
I've placed my order for an Ibiza Cupra (From Amethyst with the 210 convertion http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/wink.gif ), and I'll soon be looking for wider wheels to provide the extra traction that the 207bhp will need.
The standard Cupra wheels are 6x16", I (think) the Cupra R has 7x16" as standard, but is it possible to just squeeze in 7.5x16"s without requiring the arches to be rolled, or is that pushing it a bit too far? BTW, I don't want to move upto 17s as people have been saying that it affects their 0-60 times.
Thanks,
Ben

don't think so fella...the Cupra R has 205/45 61s on it, but maintains 7 inch rims, and all 17 inch wheels are 7 inch rims too...

I am not sure why 7.5" wheels would'nt fit.
I am due to try this combo on my own Ibiza shortly, swapping my Jetta's 7.5x16's onto my Ibiza. It does need wider rims IMHO to accomodate even the 195-45-16 standard supplied tyres. They really don't sit nicely on those stock 6x16 rims at all http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/frown.gif
I only run a slightly wider tyre on my 7.5" 16's at 205-45-16, Goodyear Eagle F1's which I rate as superb tyres.
When I get round to swapping the rims, I'll take some digi piccies and post them up.
the rear arches look like they can take a much wider rim. The stock ones look lost in the rear arches, whereas the fronts look OK.
It will be a different thing when I get the PSS9 kit on it and it is lower mindyou, but I do not intend having to mod the arches in anyway, and don't think I'll have to at first glance. (time will tell)

Bill

Ben,
I thought you were going for the SJB SPORT 200??
Why the sudden change to a RSD 210 Ibiza????
Its pretty tight with the 7x17 anyway....i know RSD tried various offsets to see which was best.
For a 7.5 x 16 rim...you'll either need a higher offset to push it out...or use spacers.
With 17's on a 38mm offset....there's not a lot of room before the wheel catches the suspension and things.
I'd be very careful before paying out for a set of 7.5 x 16. It'll be fine for the rear..but the fronts are the problem.

Would ET35 7.5 x 16's fit?
What was the problem with the fronts? What hit what?
Just wondering.
cheers

David Arthurton and Lee Chung both have 7x17"
Dave has spaced his out by 10mm i think at the back, fills the arches a lot better.
To my knowledge you wont get a 7.5 on the front axle of an Ibiza. Suspension components get in the way.

Oh..dear.
Going to have to try this now to see for myself. Being a VW underneath, I can't imagine what gets closer on an Ibiza than on say my MK2 Jetta. I agree with the rears and spacing them out. Perhaps add some rear stability to it which would'nt be a bad thing.
thanks a lot

Well, guys 7.5x16 should fit to the ibiza, you just have to play with the ET numbers.
As i already stated, a friend of mine has 9x16s with 55mm lowering (on an old 16valver), though sometimes rubs but works nicely with 2-3 persons.

Looks extremely cool in real life!

Thanks for the info... theres a few mixed opinions so I'm not sure whether or not to chance it.
Chungster, I decided to go for the RSD210 simply because of the delivery time and the security of buying a UK car from an official Seat dealer (Amethyst). The SJBSport Ibiza is cheaper and you have many more options (Rainsensor pack, ESP etc) that are not available on the UK spec car (I don't know why not.). Overall I think the SJBSport is better value but I want a quick delivery and the security you get from Amethyst.
Bill, please let me know if the 7.5" work when you get around to trying it.
Thanks,
ben

PS. How much suspension travel do your front PSS9's have in reality?
