Hello Folks,
I have a Sept '01 Skoda Octavia 1.8T 4x4 hatchback. What I would like to know does anyone know the difference in the 1.8T engines, I know obviously theres a 150bhp/156/210/225 etc but the each have different engine codes for example mines an ARX.
I would be greatful if you could lift your bonnet look on the left hand side of the engine block and note the code stamped on it, its at the top. Or lift the carpet in your boot and read it off the sticker under engine type/transmission type.
Any so which one have which type of turbo and how fdo you tell the difference between a VVT and a non-VVT?

- Can't wait till it's icey to get sideways:D
don't know about difference's but i know the beeza vt started as a AQX engine then changed 2 a AYP engine.
i think this was something 2 do with the new emission/tax ratings that came in last year.
new soon to be LEON R - will be AMK if it helps (209bhp)

Hi
I have a 2001 New Beetle Turbo, engine code AWU and this has VVTi.
I have also just had a Jabbasport Re-chip and the results on the Dyno showed 180 BHP before the chip. That was the same as a Leon 20VT they had at the time.
The results after showed 226.7 BHP and over 228 Ft/Lbs or torque. :repuke:
I also have a Milltek exhaust system fitted.

very simple, remove the engine cover and look on the right hand side, there is a solenoid there that controls the VVT...
...or, as mine is ARX and I've already checked, take my word for it that it is VVT :D
Ian
Shit 226BHP is first class form just a chip and a exhaust !!
Alow mine is 180BHP as standard I have not checked the Engine code but suspect that it will be just the same code as the 156 BHP Cupra .
FYI
Speaking to Mike at Jabbasport about VVT he said that it's not true VVT as in the honda sense, it has been fitted to reduce emissions and has no effect on the performance of the car what so ever.
It just so happens that at the same time this occured, SEAT decided to fit the Impeller from a K04 turbo to the standard K03, it has a more agressive blade which it makes more efficient.
Mike has been getting around 210-215bhp from early Leons and has had a newer one produce over 230bhp from just a chip uupgrade. Boy does this man know his stuff with VAG turbo engines !

Hiya Guys/Gals,
I and Crofter and a few others went upto Starperformance for a rolling road shootout.
My 2001 1.8t Octavia 4x4 got 183.5bhp at the fly and 100 at the wheels. I bought the car believing it was a 150bhp, but found out that 4x4's don't come with half leather in this country and well mine has so its a European car. The bloke at star said ' no way is that a 150bhp engine '
My mate Crofter managed a whacking great 198bph at the fly. Completly standard. There was a few spikes in the graph mind you where the ecu was 'just' about to switch to safe mode though cooz of its 11.5 lb of boost.
His figure was higher than there demo car which is APR chipped and has a front mounted intercooler. It got 192bhp
So all in all a fun day .:D
yip but with only 60ft of less torque :(
Resurrecting an old thread but anyways... Does anyone actually have a list of these engine codes?
My Leon 4x4, delivered on sept '01 (but '02 model) has engine code ARY and trans code FHA.
I'm almost willing to put some money down for a shop manual or something which would tell what the codes mean and what the differences really are.
