View Full Version : FAO Bill, Amethyst and Ibiza 210 owners
nice to meet you lot down at Amethyst yesterday,
Twas a nice drive home http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif
I have a couple of questions though...
1) Something is rattling from the back of the car, sounds like a small spring of some kind. Any ideas, I'll have a look later. I don't think its anything to do with the suspension (Neil told me that the suspension can make a little noise.).
2) Do your 210s lose lots of boost at about 3500rmp? Mine boosts hard upto 3500 then drops right back and then picks up again at about 4000rpm. Only taken it upto 4500 rpm a couple of times... I'm taking it easy for now. I think Bill mentioned this yesterday and said that its because the engine is still tight... is this correct Bill? If so then I guess I can expect the flat spot to go with time?
3) Is the metal base of the gearstick bag (As shown in the link below) meant to be loose. I dont think it is.

Apart from that... I'm very happy with the car. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif
The Ibiza 210, it goes!!!
Right, I'm off to do some more driving! http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

Is the spare wheel and tools secured tightly in the boot?
The drop in boost from 3.5K to 4K did the same in mine from new. It does'nt do it now I have 2K miles on it. These engines are very tight from new. It should get better.
The gearstick gaiter base should be solid.. Mine certainly is.
I would keep an eye on your ride heights. The spring kits can and will settle with a few miles on them. The back should not be lower than the front. If anything you should have a slight front low stance by approx 5-10mm(ish).
enjoy. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

I'll check out the spare and tools and see if its them rattling.
Had a look at the gaitor in the daylight and it has a cuple of clip type things at the front... tried to push them back in but without any luck. I'll have another go tommorow.

Cool, if the flat sport is going to go with time then I'm happy! http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif
Noticed something else now... there are a couple of wires visible sticking out over the passenger side mirror! I guess they just need tucking back in.
Overall, I'm Happy with the Cupras standard parts (Build quality not as good as the VW reputation though.), very very happy with the mods, and very very happy with the service from Amethyst.

Bill and Ben (the flowerpot men?) - yes mines exactly the same - I'm glad you posted this, so its not just me then!
Tremendous shove from low down which then backs off over at much over 3500rpm up to 4000rpm. 2000 miles eh? 250 miles down, 1750 to go http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/wink.gif
And still bedding the brakes in, I guess this takes a while as if you do low miles it can take a couple of weeks before they bite properly. Leave a big gap between the car in front.
Love the car, it feels rock solid, seat initially felt hard but once adjusted properly they give good back support. Gearbox massive improvement on the 16V, interior very pleasant, love the steering wheel.
Speakers are shite and need upgrading, worked wonders in the old car even with the standard head unit.
The suspension is skittish over bumpy roads, and at the same time not as sharp as my old 16V. The tyres are gripping OK yet you don't feel the confidence to exploit the grip.
How is it on the PSS9s Ben? I think they could be an essential purchase when I can afford them http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/frown.gif
It needs setting up to control the slight body lurch, and at the same time not too hard so the bumps are soaked up without the car getting too "jiggy" like it does on the standard suspension.
Bill - did you find your suspension settled down after 2000 miles or is it just as nervous over ripples in the road?

...... " those clips push in from the inside to the outer , there is about 12 all the way round ,we've had a few come loose recently ?? , just clips in easily though"
Noticed something else now... there are a couple of wires visible sticking out over the passenger side mirror! I guess they just need tucking back in........"all the cupras/ibizas with leccy mirrors have had longer wires fitted to the mirror backs to enable the glass to be removed further from the car on replacement ??
.... i spotted andy's saturday his is the same ,ill post to the factory to mention it for further car builds , bit annoying isnt it !! "

My suspension is similar to when I got it. It has settled a bit, but is the weak point of the car. The damping is firm, and I wonder if just a spring kit like H&R or something would be a good starting place for cheaper suspension mods, and not having to go the full PSS9 way. (I know I have ordered this but I also track day a lot)
the regular Bilstein kits are good and I run a non adjustable Bilstein kit on my Jetta and have no problems for 7 years. Circa £330 also for springs and shocks.
The budget way to build a reasonable suspension (based on my experience on my MK2 16v Jetta) is Eibach anti-roll bars front and rear, poly bushed suspension bushes, Bilstein Sportkit/Sprintkit OR just H&R springs on std shocks with Eibach antiroll bars.
the full on kit is Bilstein PSS9's but they come at a premium.
