Hi all,
Got VAG COM cable recently with full CAN support etc so full version. I got a fault code of 00856 Radio Antenna 36-00 Open Circuit, any ideas what would cause this and how do I rectify it ?
I am also registered for Ross Tech support but does that cover issues such as this or only hardware/ software/ interface problems ?
On a final one on the right box when you open a controller there is a login box, if you click it it asks for a number to be input, do these come from the dealer or is there generic login codes for each module ? What can you do if you login ?

I did a full search for modules and found the following
01 Engine
03 ABS
08 Auto HVAC
17 Instruments
19 CAN Gateway
25 Immobilizer
33 OBD II
3F Unknown
46 Central convenience
56 Radio
7E Cent head dash (what ever this is)
ALso the airbag controller but did not scan this just in case although I think it would be ok as its a 2003 Leon Cupra. Does everyone have all these modules and any idea what 3F would be ?

Thanks for any help totally new to all this stuff and I am trying to compile info on it all.

VAG-COM is like the X-Ray machine at the hospital. Patient shows up with a possible broken bone. If the X-Ray machine doesn't produce pictures, you call the people who made it. If it produces good pictures which indicate the bone is broken, but you're still not sure how to set the bone, the people who made the X-Ray machine are probably not the right ones to ask. They may have some familiarity with setting bones, but that's not where their main expertise lies, their main expertise lies in building X-Ray machines..:-)

3F is a "back door" address to your instrument cluster. If you go there manually, you'll find the same measuring blocks and adaptation channels as in 17, but no ID data. Why this exists, I do not know.

On your car, 7E is likely a "back door" into the ECU. Most ME7 ECUs that used KW1281 for diagnostics had this. When accessed via 7E, the ECU responds with KWP-2000, but is not capabale of any diagnostics with this protocol. Some newer cars (specifically the new A8) now use 7E for the Control Head (Navi Screen) in the dash.

Cheers Uwe,
I decided not to go to a doctor in the end thought I would reset the bones myself its taken 5 hours !!!

A Seat dealer over here had added in an antenna amp (small silver cigar shape) even though they said it was a mains supressor. I added in oe of these myself. I took off the antenna amp cleared the code and hay presto no error message. The radio still makes funny noises when it turns on though. I wish I could get my hands on another SEAT radio to see if its the radio itself !! Anyone in Glasgow got a spare one hanging around.

Found out about those controllers, thought there were similarities with the instrument cluster 17 when accessing. I have gone through all the measuring blocks and also all the adaptation channels and have written them all down (what a job !!).

The login bit still confuses me where do I get the codes for that bit and what can I do once logged in ? are there different codes for each module then ? This isnt the same as the SKU code is it ?

Your lead seems to work very well wished the cable itself could have been a bit thicker I am scared of kinking it and damaging the wires inside though !! Definately would not buy any of the other cheapo ones that are doing the rounds on Ebay etc.

Thanks again

David

There's very little you need a login code for. If you're trying to do something specific that needs a login code, the code will usually be documented in the procedure, except of course for immo logins, those are different for every car.

As far as the USB cable, I don't think we've ever gotten one back due to a faiure in the cable (wire) itself. Since a USB cable only has 4 wires in it, it's hard to find one that's thicker than 5mm, which is what we use.

Oh right only 4 cables thats good news I thought it would be like a scart lead with a dozen or more wires inside it.
Cheers again Uwe.
