Has anyone had a quote for a 20vt conversion in an Ibiza or Cordoba?

If so please post details of who, where, how much etc...

Hi Pete,

I think one of Bill's mates did it in his 16v - it needed the engine, box etc, but also the subframe & most fo the front for the cooling etc etc - I think there is a thread going in For Sale - he did it himself I think.

Pn the other hand - when I was at Stealth Racing I spoke to Vince about this and he said it'd be about 2k in labour - the good thing about this is you get to choose your engine.

Also he said that when he quotes it - he keeps to the price.

So if you assume 3.5k for parts & 2k for labour - plus Gordon Browns share.. it's a fair wack.

Paul @ RPM costed the job for Dave A also - but I've forgotten how much it was now.

I had a quote last yr for a 20vt Engine going into a Mk3 Golf and it was £5k, but that should have gone down now .......... That was from Tim Stiles Racing, Bill might know a bit more!

Also try www.jabbasport.co.uk and speak to Mike!

I got a quote ages ago. I think it was something like £4K, and was the same for 1.8T and VR6. I can't remember where it was but I'll try and dig it out...

It was from a site I found through Performance VW.

Bargain @ 4k.

I talked to Volksline (breakers) in Nuneaton about 20VT engines on Saturday

Wanting 1800 for a VR6
2300- for a 150bhp 20VT
2800 for a 180bhp 20VT
3500 for a 225bhp 20VT

Not that I've been planning too Pete :)

I couldn't remember if it was £4k or £5k. Must have been 5 then.

Prices quoted here are way too high..
More like £1000 to £1500.

I know of an S3 motor which was sold for £1500 recently..came with subframe, rack and brakes.. Some damage though to throttle mech.

Unless your car is already heavily modified, I'd say it isn't worth it.

Why? Well, if you take a round figure of £3K for the transplant (are these prices including brakes, gearboxes, etc?) , you'll have to spend another £3K-ish to get the thing up above 250bhp.

What's the point of the transplant if you're not going to tune it way above the current engines capabilities?

You'll get sod all money for it at sale time too. It'd make more sense in the case of the Ibiza to buy a newer car - a 2nd hand 20VT. At least that way the bodywork, etc will last long enough to get moneys-worth of enjoyment out of the performance?
