View Full Version : SX Suspension opinions please...
Hi all,
I am looking to modify the suspension on my '98 SX 2.0 16v. My wishes are:
1) 2 or 3 cm lower because it would look a lot better.
2) Sort out the excessive body roll when cornering hard.
Anyone recomend any kit in particular? Would you swap just the springs or the shocks as well?
I used to have a mk2 Golf 16v with a Spax kit and that was excellent - brilliant handling with out being too harsh.
Cheers!

I'm in the same boat, as my 'dave's discount' PI springs have finally overcome my shocks.
Glyn has Koni's on his beeza and praises the ride quality, but everyone else likes bilsteins. Would like some more choice but the poor old cordy gets left out.
What I have discovered by trawling through parrt no's is that all ibizas/cordy/polo4 use the same rear shocks
whereas the fronts (97on) are shared by golf 3's and polo4 late models. The springs are the only difference - so you could buy some top quality vw shocks and match them to decent Seat springs such as eibachs.

well just before brunty i switched to eibach springs, got them for 40 quid plus vat offa AMD, they have made the car handle soo much nicer in most aspects, i kept the standard shocks for now , but am thinking of getting matched ones in the future, bumps are not as bad as i thought they would be, after using Pi springs for 6 months I was looking forward to the standard ones going back on short term while my f2 was fitted, I was really shocked as to how bad the standard setup corners, i nearly wiped out a couple of times when i thought i was taking it "easy!!" when the eibachs went on the drop wasnt severe at all, definately an inch higher than the 40mm Pi springs, the car still has the more agressive looks and corners like never before....oh i also had a strut brace fitted months ago so that may also have helped!!!
gimme a shout if you have any other queries about my setup:cheers:
Cheers for the responses :)
Eibach springs sound like a good start. That a special price from AmD? I thought they were more like 100 notes.
Would you recommend one of those fancy geometry alignments after messing with the suspension? Or just a KwikBodg type tracking check?

definately get the camber sorted after the susp gets fitted, my steering was out by 45 degrees until i got it done, A local charles Hurst Garage ( big in N.I) did my four wheel alignment and camber for 25 quid, it uses the latest Hunter Computerised geometry thingies, i watched and was well impressed, car goes straight completely now!!
dont just get your wheels aligned, kwik sh!t only use the original manufacturers specs and it doesnt take the changes on camber into consideration.
