Whet to see these guys today, the guy I spoke to did not have a clue. Looked at buying Demo (need v quick delivery) Leon Cupra with leather + metalic they want £16.6K (3700 miles on the clock)
When pressed he said he may be able to drop £200 in screen price. I left asap.

They refuse to acknowledge that there will be any changes to the leon until next year, when pressed he told me I must be wrong as they always change the sports models last.

Does anyone know of a dealer near Basingstoke that you can have a sensible conversation with?

Test drove a new ibiza at GC and the sales guy knew nothing about that either. Useless

Bought my first Ibiza Cupra from Meadens of Sway in the New Forest.
Guys are really clued up and give a good service. It's a drive tho.

The service 'manager' at Great Covert looks like he'd rather be somewhere else than there. They don't even stamp your warranty book after a service unless you remind them. I took my old cupra there to be serviced as Meadens is about an 80 mile round trip.

I bought my new Ibiza Cupra at GC and they really don't give a sh!t after you've signed the paper.

They need to buck their ideas up...

Thats it I've had it with GC.. book my car in to have MAF sensor replaced and a dodgy seat fixed.. All arranged for next wednesday... Phone up today to confirm oh no sir cant lookat anything else but the MAF.. Like hello I booked it in for a whole day for something that takes 30 mins to fix..

sod them I aint going back they dont deserve business.. The service manager is possibly the most ignorant guy I have ever met! Hello I just spent 15k with you and you tell me you wont look at the problem and I have to book it in..

I hate them!

Jared

I posted something in the Ibiza thread about a dodgy seat...

...mine seems to feel like there is a large ball bearing inside the seat rolling around when you corner hard. Is this the same sort of problem you have?

BlackFR
31-05-2002, 18:17
nah mines a clonk:( if you sit in the seat and rock like when you are using clutch control reversing up a hill for example if feels like it is unlocked.. The guy wouldnt even look at it to see if it was safe and that was 3 weeks ago now he tells me I have to wait another 3 weeks for another appointment!:(

Just phoned Richard huzzeys in Newbury.. spoke to a nice guy and I'm gunna pop over there and sus them out!:) sounded interested and helpful though!

Its not too bad to get to either as I live in basingstoke so Southampton is a bit of a trek anyhows!:)

Hope u get it ssorted mate.. and I hope no one ever goes back to that excuse of a dealer.. I have never been in a place where once you have the car you get blanked and ignored so much.

I will let you know how the guys at Newbury are:)

I was talking to ComedySi and he reckons that when he had his car serviced at Meadens they kurbed one of his wheels and denied they had done it. I found Meadens a bit crap when I wanted to test drive an Ibiza. They told me I could only drive it if I was going to buy it! That's logic for you! I found GC fairly helpful. I drove an X reg yellow Ibiza CUpra, wasn't it someone's trade in on here?

I had better service from renault aafter spending 8k on a car a couple of years back.. I dont know if you were trying to say brian that 15k aint much to spend and thats the service I should expect? I dont agree with that but I dont think that wos what you were saying:)

I had no problem with GC for sales just the service dept suck. Andy is reasonable enuff in after sales etc but I've lost faith.

After spending £15k on a car, IMO, they should be doing the proverbial cartwheels to keep you happy. ;)

Whe you say "mod friendly" does that mean that if you had your car chipped etc. they would still honour the full warranty do you reckon?

Matt Stone guy said that the guvnors son has a leon 20VT lowered and chipped etc and when I asked about chipping and warrenty he said not really a problem we wouldnt even notice to be honest.. It might be worth giving him a call though and say that you spoke to me:)

Try him on 01635 42131

But all signs point to that being a yes to chips and the like!:)

Again dont quote me on it give him a call tell him matt1e sent ya.. lol:)

Great Covert???
My Father has his Arosa Sport booked in at the end of the month to have his tappets done under warrenty. And my father is scared after reading comments like are on this forum.

After reading that several people have had bad experiences with GC's service dept (myself being one aswell), this begs the question, Do their mechanics know what their doing also?

My car is going in tomorrow to have the leaking doors done again, because they didnt manage to finish the job properly last time, or said they did, and low and behold as soon as it rained, they leaked!!! Its still under warrenty so no cost to me.

I certainly wont be going back there to have my car serviced, and agree with previous comments, " As soon as you have signed the paper they dont seem to care less", after sales serivce is what makes the consumer go back again. Surely common sense can tell people this.

I'm trying richar huzzeys in Newbury going in next monday but they have phoned me to tell me the parts are in and to see if there is anything else I need doing.. Its all looking good so far but I will let you know!

It ay be worth taking a trip up the A34 from winchester to newbury just to have a look around and a chat to them? I'm not say GC are the worst on the planet its just that parts/service guy winds me up with his attitude..

Let me know how u get on!:)

I have mixed feelings about GC. It took two attempts to fix the leaking doors (all 4) but now it's perfect. They fixed a wierd vibrating noise from the back, but failed to fix squeeky seats (once) and rattle from boot catch (twice). They are also only 5 mins away and I am a lazy b***ard!

One thing, there are so few Seat dealers around that, in some areas at least, they don't have to work hard to keep the business ticking over. You have to give 3 weeks notice to get seen at GC, and over 4 weeks if you want a courtesy car. With that level of easy business, no wonder they are a little complacent.

Been to huzzeys in newbury veryhappy with them and that is where my car is going from now on:) You just have to remember not to call a MAF sensor a MAF sensor you must call is a mass air sensor otherwise the service woman says there is no such thing.. lol:)

1 weeks notice for a courtesy car too:)

I think the dealer in Bournemouth that Ryan goes to is very good, and I have heard great things about Huzzey's in Newbury (off there on Thursday). At least GC seem to be listerning and hopefully, changes on the horizon, but everyone else around the M3 corridor seem pretty dissapointing.

As Matt1e has mentioned Great Covert are now contactable on SEATCupra.net and we are registered as SOUTHSEAT.

As both a retailer and consumer myself I can appreciate the frustration and dis-satisfaction some of you have experienced in the past with our garage and would like to reassure you that customer delight is of paramount importance for us. Mistakes are unfortunately inevitable, customer dis-satisfaction is not.

Whilst I cannot stop vehicles having faults or parts going on back order, I can assure you that we do aim to repair your vehicles as quickly as possible. The quality and popularity of the SEAT product both nationally and locally has expanded very rapidly stretching our aftersales departments to the limit and leaving long booking times.

To try to alieviate this problem we intend to introduce a technicians four day shift rota increasing our working day by two hours per technician to a ten hour day. This will then enable us to recruit another technician adding another 42.5 available hours every week to offer you. Those of you that read the recruitment media local to Southampton may have noticed our recruitment advertisements running. Like most industries, there is currently a huge shortage of unemployed skilled staff in the motor industry and therefore recruiting a suitably qualified individual is proving very difficult. Also, at your requests, our courtesy car fleet has increased to 6 and we have employed a dedicated Service Department driver to collect your vehicles or take you home or to work etc.

Whilst I have only been at Great Covert SEAT since the beginning of the year I know of at least 3 registered users of this site who have experienced the changes in Customer Service and would like to thank those individuals (you know who you are!) personally for giving us the opportunity to put things right. Rome, however, was not built in a day. I can assure you I have a passion for my role and will not give up until Customer Service becomes an attitude and not just a department.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I look forward to meeting some of you personally either at the dealership or at an off site promotion such as the Eastleigh Motor Show.

For your interest SEAT UK have kindly made available one of the first UK specification Leon Cupra R's to arrive in the country for the Eastleigh Motor Show on the 29th & 30th June 2002. Visit the Leon forum page for more info. Come along - i'll be there all weekend eating burgers and in the beer tent (don't tell head office that bit!) and look forward to meeting you and showing you around the SEAT model range.

Kind regards.

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly via these forums, via e-mail to kevin.fisher@snowsgroup.co.uk , or telephone to 023 8073 3733 or 07802 672496.

Hi Kevin

Thanks for your reply:)

I have no problem with waiting for work to be done or waiting for a courtesy car my problem is basically the attitude of the after service guy on the desk he doesnt want to know looks like hed rather be off down the pub or anywhere rather than facing customers..

I know cars have faults and I completely accept that there is just no excuse for poor customer service when a customer reports a fault.

Good to know your on here:)

Just to even this thread up a little I was refered to Great Covert by SEAT UK 18 months ago when I had a major immobiliser problem on my old Toledo V5 which my local dealer "Derek Warwick" (no longer in business selling SEAT's I hasten to add) were completely incapable of fixing on 4 visits and 23 days of having the car.

I took the car to Great Covert who had it fixed in a day, they gave me a courtesy car even though I hadn't bought it from them in the first place so I think its swings and roundabouts....

I must admit though I had to wait 3 weeks to get an appointment though....

Personally I can't fault GC on the service I've had from them so far.

My wife and I traded in a 206 for a Leon Cupra in late March and, aside from getting a very fair price straight off the bat, the car arrived when they said it would and I've had no problems with it in the 3500 miles we've done so far (although a few of the dreaded stone chips have appeared). The salesman I dealt with, Gary, was knowledgeable, honest and a pleasure to deal with.

My first experience of a dealership was Focus Camberley - an utter disgrace to the marque, they wouldn't allow us to test-drive a car until we had agreed a price. Needless to say we walked out without wasting any more of our time, and later the same day had ordered our Cupra from Great Covert - so their loss and GC's gain.

After sales is mine main grip:)

I agree, that's what I found after buying mine from GC.

When I bought it and drove out, fine, but coming back to sort anything out seems like really hard work.

GC - personally good service, especailly Colin who's left on sales. He was very good.

Unfortuantely, have to agree - I too have had to wait 3 weeks on several occasions to get the car seen to. One hopes that is due to the popularity of the product, rather than complacency...

My biggest gripe is the build quality from the factory, and the support from SEAT UK - which appears non-existant. GC are good - it's just the quality of my two most recent cars from the factory that worries me...

Oh - and Meaden's. I've bought 2 cars from them, and the most recent one had an electrical problem on it. Took them almost 8 weeks to locate and rectify, and then returned vehicle with curbed alloy. Denied liability - so based upon good reports historically on GC I went there.

I think overall it's a case by case thing. One person's bad experience at Meadens (or GC) is exactly the opposite by someone else. Just depends on the day, what your problem is, what staff are on etc. I guess....

Still (kinda) happy with SEATs...?????!!!!!
