View Full Version : Altea floor mats
Has anyone got a problem fastening the front mats down? The head of the screws that fit into the hole in the mats don't click into place. As a result the mats slide around - especially the passenger side . It looks like the diameter of the screws is slightly too big. I went back to the dealer and they got another new set of mats but they had the same problem.

When I picked up my Sport TDI the dealer didn't bother to fix the mats - they just put them in place. I must say that the driver's one doesn't seem to move around though. You could always use a sheet of the gripper cloth that is used to stop carpet mats slipping.

I tired fixing mine but ALL of the fixing screws broke when we tried to install them! Also I have noticed there is a big worn patch on the drivers side where my clutch foot must rest - its warn right away already after just 4000 miles!
I bought bog standard Halford mats and cut the drivers side to scale non of these poncy Seat ones;). After 1,600 miles they are still looking fine:). No screws hold them and nothing drops out:). The worse that happened to my ZX Halford mats in 10 years was when a guy took the car back to the workshop to fix a leaky window dropped a ciggie that then burnt the mats.
The dealer didnt fix my mates down either but they dont move at all as they have quite a grippy rubber on the back of them.
Hibitdat - I also have the bald patch where my clutch foot rests. Somewhere I read that accessories supplied on a new car at delivery are covered by the same warranty as the car, so I am thinking of putting it down as a fault at the first service. If you dont ask you dont get!
Well I reckon my Halford mats chopped to size will just go on, and on myself:).
OK guys I know I have been a stick in the mud about fitting stuff to the outside I have fitted the headlight protectors as I posted up in December or so. They are good and give you free deflectors as well in side the box.
The SEAT mats are pretty poor, i also have the nice bald patches and after 12,000 they look worse than the mats did in my Vrs Octavia after 45,000. I expect the DSG drivers will last a lot longer! Must mention it next time i take it in.
Had no problem fixing the mats in place, a tight fit but they do click in.

It did cross my mind that with a DSG we don't move our feet around much or left arm....
when i picked up my nice shiney new altea, the sales men fobbed me off with the line " OH THEY HAVE ONLY JUST ARRIVED " and placed my set of mats in the boot.
an easy way of saying they dont fit properly . a great mat, but poor design fixing.

Well my Halfords heavy duty ones that I cut up with a heavy duty pair of scissors for the drivers side don't move around at all:). So I reckon I got the best deal on them.
My old Leon mats lasted over 80,000 miles and then I sold them on ebay for 20 quid!! :D My fecking Altea ones after 9,000 miles are already thread bare around the clutch area :censored:
I really donot understand how they can be so shoddy. All my drivings on the motorway.... god knows how bad the mats would be driving day in day out in London!!

You are not kidding greeny - after just 6500miles my drivers side mat has a nice bald spot where my clutch foot sometimes rests (when its not on the nice clutch foot rest!) - perhaps we should push our dealers for a replacement set while they are still so new!

When mine goes in for the service will mention that..... sure they will come up with some reason why they cant possibly replace them.

Don't work for Halfords by any chance do you.

I tried that, apparently it comes under fair wear and tear, which is of course complete rubbish. :(

Fair wear & tear ...... my arse!!! Just hope rest of the car lasts better than the mats :D
The garage did put in a report to Seat about the mats but no feedback as yet. If more people complain maybe it will become an issue.
They are not even proper carpet, they look like they just sprinkled some fluff on the mats on a bed of glue. After 14000 miles mine are looking a bit shabby!

ive now done 1400 miles and the mats are now looking a little ragged. ive placed a clear mat over the top, to try and protect the original mat. "didnt work" :starwars:
:thumbd: my mats are bare now, espec the drivers side, car's done7k and there is no way they should be this poor.
The mats in my Leon CR I sold in January were 2.5 yrs old and still in as new nic!
Also, I have no retaining pins to hold the mats in place, it may be as I had the caras an ex demo these were previously snapped off before I took delivery, must go back to dealer anyway as Chrome trim fitted is now unstuck and needs fixing, for the 4th time!

No.... I didn't think about getting proper Altea mats, didn't know they did them. After buying a new car I always go straight around to Halfords to buy new mats, but I did sort of forget that the accelerator pedal hinges from the floor so I did have to chop a fair amount off on the drivers side, but they work and don't move about or wear out  .
Well after reading all the posts on here and just ordering an Altea I don't think I will be buying SEAT floormats this time so I will being doing something like you Tell.
