I've got a Laguna currently and I looking to change to the altea, one of the options is the rear parking sensors, my Laguna currently has those and are pretty useless, as the 'beep' come from the rear of the car, which you can't hear if;

a: you have music on (at a decent volume)
b) Have a car full of kids and a nagging wife ;)
c) A boot load of stuff
d) any combination of above
e) a,b&c

So what I want to know, does it 'beep' from the rear, or has a manufucture actually managed to make a decent version that either;

a)mutes the volume on the stereo
b)ejects all passengers :blink:
c) uses the stereo to make the 'beep'

I'd be interested to know?

Thanks

Novco

Hi novco - sadly the beep still comes from the rear and is not especially loud, however having live with it for three months or so now there is no way I would buy an Altea without them - just remember to hit the stereo mute button on the steering wheel before reversing!

Does it come from the rear ?. Mine was retro fitted since they forgot to fit it when it was made... the silly Seat garage dropped it off the order and then it was put back on and fitted once it arrived in the UK.

True if the volume is up you don't hear it too well. Very true hibitdat or hold with putting the radio on when you back out of a drive way.

You do actually need it since visibility is not good at the back and you would not want to hit anything in your new wheels.

Does that mean that your sensors are flush with the bumper rather than recessed as factory fit??

The trim where the sensors are is part of the bumper so there must be 2 moulds for the bumper.

Hi Tell, yes the beep does come from a rear speaker... It would be clever if they could (quite easily methinks) make it so as the beep comes from which ever side the obstacle is...

I was experimenting by backing up to my mates car the other day until until the beep went to a constant tone. So I stopped and had a look and was still at least a foot from the front on his car.

My parking sensors were also retrofitted as somwhere along the line they got missed of the order. My sensors are slightly proud of the bumper rather than flush/slightly recessed like the factory fit ones although the sensors are in the same place on the bumper. The beep is also higher pitched on mine compared to the factory fit system

OK Nimay you got the same deal as I did then. I'll have to check whether it's the rear speakers as well since they might have been plumbed into the front.

Perhaps they did with mine... if Seat don't pre-wire the cars....

Did anyone find out where the beep was coming from? It appears that some think it comes from the rear speakers. Which would be better than my current Laguna one, that comes from the within the boot

Why not just fit a slave beeper (Maplins) in the front of the car. Or you could turn up your hearing aids!!! lol

Mine are factory fitted and seem to make noise at the edge of the seat in the rear ,on the passenger side.Not sure if it comes from a speaker though, its quite hard to tell from the driver's seat. Yes ,you don't want the stereo playing at high volume when you're reversing, it could drown out the beep. However, I'm jolly glad I managed to get an Altea with the sensors fitted, as even with pactice it's very hard to see objects below the rear window line.
They are certainly a very worthwhile option, and not that costly. :thumbup:
