View Full Version : Silicon boost kit for TDI 150

There have been quite a few requests around the forums (including mine :hide: ) regarding a full set of Samco hoses/kit to replace all boost tubes on the VAG ARL 150Hp TDI engine. As the 150PD seems to be popular, thought I'd stick a thread to see if Forge could persuade Samco to do something. :)

Anyone interested please reply to thread as well.

Paulo

As I said before I'm interested for sure

Are you gonna try and see if you can get some other VAG groups interested in this thread/subject too ??

And me :hide:

seriously we are already working on it. May be quite a few weeks away tho as silicone hose tooling takes an age to make and then the manufacture of the hoses themselves takes another age :(

Just to add to the Poll and make this very messy, what do we think is a sensible price? any suggestions and dont be silly

Price would depend on the amount of interest in them wouldn't it,... if they're only gonna do 1 set each for Paulo and me they're gonna be expensive aren't they !!?? :D

Seriously though,... there's nothing in the price list on the Samco site for any diesels so it's hard to even start to gauge a price isn't it  What do you think a ballpark figure's gonna be Richard ??

Have you asked/are you gonna be asking them to do the usual range of colours too ?? (Mine would be blue please ;) )

No idea of a price at this stage. The ends of the diesel pipes have metal pressed inserts so this is the difficulty and probably why nobody has produced kits for VAG diesels at this point.
Blue and Black wil probably be the favourite for the colours.

No worries Richard

Count me in for a Blue set whenever you get em ;)

Due to tuning crackdown by the dump government mine need to be black... ;)

Bump....
The Ibiza 130 crowd might be interested as well, so post up if you are.

Very surprised there are not more people interested....

Bump,...

Blimey there must be more than just 6 people on here who'd be interested in these,... isn't there

Dont worry about the result of this poll. We will be looking at Hose kits for many VAG diesels. We already have a solution for the badly fitting hose joints as used on these. Won't be anything released for at least 3 months though. Sorry chaps.
I have a Leon 150pd FR at present but we have to produce goods that make business sense and I cannot get away with producing a range of goodies for my own car :(

130 tdi leon too please ! also guys at forge can u help me with an intercooler ? does ne1 apart from allard do 1 for the 130??
edit: would a 2nd intercooler like the cupra R fit/benefit the above car?

FMIC replacement for the 100-130 side mounts is in development process. Approx 8 weeks to production versions just in time for Summer.
150pd FMIC replacement for the stock FMIC may never happen as we just cannot fault the stock unit at this time. It would be much too an expensive upgrade for a minimal gain. (Sorry Paulo :( )

great richard to hear ur making an intercooler for 130 got any idea on a rough price? r the gains for the petrol on ur site?

RichardBW

Actually the Petrol version for the Leon has been reviewed on here. The Diesels are still to be tested. Very different boost pressures and characteristics on diesel though so they may be quite different.

nick radwell
17-03-2005, 21:19
that mean u could get away with having a bigger intercooler if space permitting? i like the finish on the forges too very smart! would price be similar to petrol version? might just have to wait for ur version then :worship:

RichardBW

Price is something we can only give accurately on completion. I really would not want to speculate. However you know we will do our best for SCN members. creep, creep

Bigger IC is not always the best. There has to be a comprimise in required boost and pressure losses if too big. Flow characteristics and many other factors have to be taken in to account also.

well whatever im sure ur job will be top notch and discounts sound very appealing ;) ;) just keep us informed on completion dates etc cheers

:thumbd: :thumbd:

No Problems mate, I figured it would not be viable (or worthwhile) except on a mega tuned diesel 150PD.

Just got in from doing some logging on the way home..
Temps ranged from about 32ºC - 40ºC most of the way but for the last 3-4 km, after refueling ran it flat out in 6th (on private road... )

Temps starting @23.6ºC and hit 48.7ºC (ran out of road.. )

Ambient temp was 15ºC..

When it warms up weather wise and you show me the logs going over 60 then we can look at the possibilty again of a 150fmic upgrade. :)

Richard.

That will probably only happen here and on a hand full of tuned TDI's, not on chip only cars...So again not worth engineering a 1 off IC. :crying: :crying:

I am also interested in a FMIC for the 150 PD and some Samco Hoses ( for me in red ) !  Hopefully they have it soon :worship:

Modified FMIC for 150pd Golf and Leon may never happen as we cannot find a weakness in the standard FMIC. We will test again as the UK weather warms up (if ever?)
Hose kits will come but not immediately. There are a few other kits to do before these diesel kits. They are started though. Some tooling done for the hose end couples which is the tricky bit on later VAG cars.
We will keep you all posted as to progress.

Flashbsd..............What are the mk3 Ibiza hoses you are asking about? Boost or Coolant?

flashbsd

turbo mate. The TIP, like the LCR one, for connecting to the air box.

and coolant if you are doign any, wouldnt mind tarting up mine with a few extra's :) already tinkering with the Samco Boost hoses, set of 4 for the cupra ibiza, but they dont have any pictures so dont know if they go all the way from the intercooler, or just to the plastic mounts.

Richard,

Now the boost pipe is available for the 'wooshy dump valve' :thumbd: is there any news on the complete set as per Paulo's original post ??

RichardBW

We still dont have a full application list to cover the whooshies on all VAG diesels yet, therefore I estimate well in to next year before we do full or part kits for the specific vehicles. Sorry but we have to base the development around the amount of requests and it just aint big enough yet for the boost hose kits for diesels.
Now you just watch 200 replies saying "me please"

I really hope these come out soon. I've mentioned to Rich already, and will post up here that we've seen quite alot of OE IC failures on chipped turbo diesels!
Most haven't been on the TDI's but even the TDI ones have failed on ocassion. High pressure + plastic endcaps sometimes cause bad problems.
