I test drove the Cupra today...

Wow that car is fast, only one gearchange to 60?

The build quality is OK i guess, still better than Peugeot.

The man who let me test drive the Cupra let me do what i wanted with it which was cool.

Had a mini-race with a Mondeo ST24 on the motorway, burned him off but the car was quick.

Hmmm do i change my 206 GTi to a Cupra, i still don't know. I think the 206 looks nicer and is only marginally slower.

Convince me guys http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

I have to say I'm not too keen on the looks of the 206. (Just my opinion).

However having driven a mates I was impressed with the overall package. Peugeot have yet again made a car that can give most a good run for their money on the twisty country roads.

As for the big question " Do I get a Cupra?"

If your plans are to get a Cupra and leave it standard.......don't bother, there isn't enough of a difference between them to make it worthwhile (I would also argue that the 206 handles slightly better and offers a nicer ride than std Cupra).

HOWEVER....if your plans are to "play" with the Cupra (RSD 210 conversion or similar) then I fully recommend you order 1 right now.

In fact I order/demand you order one now..........you will not be disappointed. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/wink.gif

The difference between a std Cupra and a RSD or AmD prepared one is like "chalk and cheese".

Yeah, haven't tried it yet as the car only has 375 miles on the clock but Neil told me that you can get 80 out of second!

Will try it once the clock passes 1000 miles! http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif

1st is a bit snatchy and neck jerking so I usually dive for second once at about 20-30mph..

2nd will take you all the way to the rev limiter which is at about 75-80mph (hard to tell when trying to look at the road too)..!!

slide the sukka into 3rd and still feel that turbo pulling like a train all the way up to 105mph..

You are then pushing it with the police, but if the road is clear and no danger to life and limb (as such) then try fourth and fifth for a laugh too..!! they say the top on a standard is 138..!! that is a crock os shit too.. I have had 142 out of mine and there was still more to come I reckon but I only had one pair of shorts with me so eased back..!!

The car IS fast and extremely good in a straight line, if you are wanting to stick it round corners quickly then get the PSS9 suspension kit and some Brembo or AP 4 pot brakes and you could always try the RSD 210 upgrade which will make you Beeza into a Porsche Boxter killer.. Maybe not everytime but when you are up against an old fart that doesn't know how to use their right foot (Porsche drivers tend to be older), then you will kaine those Boxsters..!!

Get rid of the 206 they are shite..!! You can't mod them enough, and get yourself a Cupra.. I would personally say the Beeza as it is small and ideal for younger people that don't carry passengers, or if you are older or want a bigger car then get the Leon as you can do all the same with that, that you can with the Beeza..

Just get one and enjoy.. they ARE fun.

Scoobster!
I live just up the road from you and have had my cupra for a few weeks now. When would you suggest the modifications you mentioned? when the car is weeks old? a year old? 2 years?? how would it affect warranty. I have a bit of cash to spend and wouldnt mind the 210 conversion maybe.

Any suggestions ???

Cheers mate.

Firstly..

Andy: apologies fella.. not quite meant as you have quoted me as putting it. I merely meant that an older person is more likely to think that the Beeza looks like a boy racers car and so opt for the Leon, young or old any Cupra is fine. Drive what you like and like what you drive..!!

Secondly...

Eswales: York is indeed just up the road, I actually live in Kirkella which is 7 miles outside Hull and near the Humber Bridge so actually closer to York. I have some friends that live in York also and was over there the other week.
As for the mods.. I personally don't have the mods done on mine yet as I am trying to work out if my dealer is ok or not. Any mod will invalidate the warranty relevant to that particular item, so if you change your brakes and they then go wrong they aren't covered, however if you change your brakes and your gearbox starts playing up then they will have to fix it as the brakes don't affect the gearbox.
Be warned though that they will possibly try and get out of it by saying things are linked. If you chip your car but don't change your brakes and they decide to crap out, they will say the chip was too much for the brakes and so they won't repair them on warranty.

A lot of this depends on your dealer and how they react to mod'ing. From what I have heard the RSD is the mutz nutz, and is exactly what SEAT should have done to the car themselves from the factory as an option package instead of releasing the Cupra R with half the upgrades but for a sh*t load more cash.
As for timing of getting them, you can get them at any time as Amethyst are actually selling brand new cars that are RSD'd. Personally I am glad I have my car stock so I have seen what it is like and have got use to driving it as it is. I would maybe put a couple of hundred miles on the clock or maybe more, I have done 3500 and things are just about starting to sort themselves, the niggles come out and you can take it back to get it sorted before you start sticking new bits onto it. I am thinking of waiting until the spring to mod mine when the weather improves so I can make the most out of it and will have found out what is going to go wrong with my car (if anything).

I would test the water with your dealer and see how they are about mod'ing and then decide, you could always have a word with Flapper and the boyz @ Amethyst or give RSD a buzz and speak to them, they are the guyz in the know..

Enjoy your Cupra fella.. but beware.. they do bite.. so be safe.

My fault mate, I was misquoting you on purpose to get that line in to Cupraman, after he said that I was a tart in another thread for driving an Ibiza.....

Leons are damn fine cars as are Ibizas. I was just having a dig a Lee.

Cheers
