3rd year warranty for imported ibiza tdi sport

I went to my local dealer to buy the third year warranty and was told as it is an import I cant. Is this true or bull. I did this before with my vw polo that I imported with no problem.

Anyone offer any advice, I don't really want to buy a third party rac etc warranty.
