Saw one of these on a mates RS turbo, quite smart i thought.
What is the temp range of a vag outside temp sensor?
Would it be possible to hook another sensor up and tap it into the ic piping before the Inlet manifold and have a switch between the outside and the new sensor and still using the outside temp indicator on the radio console for both??
Or is there a kit for something similar?
any ideas?

interesting mod, could get a 3 way switch and have oil temp as well :D

Now we're talking!!
Any auto electricians on here??
your aircon & climate will be trollied as it 'needs' the outside temp

If the air con and climate control weren't in use would it work?
Does anyone have an indicator/gauge for the inlet temp other than the vag-com?
I don't think the type of sensor used for the outside temp would work, or last long in the inlet (too hot/wrong sensor type). You could probably get an additional sensor that matches the output profile of the existing sensor, but it'd be a lot of faff to get it to work.
Autometer do a gauge for inlet temp, it includes the sensor, but they seem expensive - £150 + VAT IIRC.
I got one of these www.turbodisplay.com
http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=46526 (bill mentions another type in this thread)
I specifically wanted a separate temperature sensor to the oe fitted one (because of the heatsoak question), but if you just wanted an on-dash display, have a look for PDA based ODII tools, some of those has on-screen boost guages etc...

i thought of this and looked into it about 1 year back, firstly there is the aircon/climate control to think about plus then u have to have the right voltage and I doubt the range is as accurate/good/responsive as need be
better off utilising the same technology and adding a seprate display
*tip* look in the maplins catalogue ;)

will do, i'm sure i'll find something. I'll have a look through RS aswell.

Ive found a 2"x1" Temp display LED in RED very basic but clear. Waiting for price/details

I told that one of the issues is finding a sensor that reacts fast enough to be worthwhile. I'm sure it can be done though. I get the impression that the guy I got mine of will also supply sensors (including MAP sensors).
Already I'm wishing my bit of kit had more than one channel, it would be interesting to see aribox temp :hide:
I know steve schwing has all sorts of temp sensors on his TT, I think they're the same sort of thing as Daz mentioned. Might be some stuff on his fokti site.
Did you know that the MAP sensor *might* also have a temperature sender in it - although, again, I was told it doesn't react fast enough to be of any use. It might be an option though. If you look the MAP sensor has four pins, but one isn't connected. I've got the Bosch Sensor data sheets in a PDF - I could never find an exact match to my sensor though...
Might just be easier to buy one :bleh:

£42.50 delivered to suit RSTs and Cossies (direct fitment into OE fitting on inlet manifold), just two wires to connect (earth and ignition live) and a sensor to screw in inlet manifold.
Samples every 1s, backlit, reads up to a maximum of 69.9°C and comes with a lifetime warranty (manufacturing defects).
Mail me on mike@rjpipe.demon.co.uk to order...

more here ^^^
Bugger. Would've been a bit cheaper than the turbo display.
Another option - if you have a serial ODBII cabl eand a PDA:
www.arlab.it
cheers for copying that, i forgot i was logged in when i copyed the link, Doh! i wouldnt worry about it being cossie and RST specific as the one i had was just a sensor on a wire which could be placed anywhere with no need for a boss as the wire was slim enough to go between the boost hose and jubilee clip and the sensor just hung in the boost pipe. mikes a top bloke and i dont think theres a bloke/bloke'ess in the ford scene who hasnt bought something from him, top service aswell, and he's a proper track day veteran so most of his products are tested on track or used by him, cant ask for more than that.

thanks bill
It looks good, tho I would want something red personally
for the serious among you using laptops etc summat like this ?
http://www.autotap.com/autotap_for_windows.html
yet to test it on a vag com cable mind but watch this space :p
download and have a play - VERY versatile
I do like the look of that. Logging is one thing but it's good to have "real time" display of this stuff.
This would be another reason to have a car pc though  (Pabs'll be along in a bit).
Having the laptop floating around in the car is a pain.
apparently it does connect live - logging is for recording for later
did think the same (in car pc) but then for the little useage decided on the laptop on a clip in frame - reminds me - J4se - u sent that seat belt clip yet ?

No, I meant that with vag-com and laptop you really need to be logging not looking the screen as it's not that easy to read and would constitute a hazard onthe queens highway (m'lud).
If you had gauges, virtual or other wise however...
vag-com already has a display function

that autotap does both - mind you i'm still playing with the colours/gauges/fonts :p

This might be stupid, but why not just get a SPA digital gauge that can do boost & intake temp?
Came across this as well:

What about this, my friend has one on his tuned Escort S2 and it seems to work quite well.

Funny you say that as I can now supply these at £50 all in (P&P etc), But.... They have a red display not green (actually I can choose) so it matches the dash, Its sitting on my desk at mo, Will be fitted probably tue morning, It does samples every second, and red display as i said
pic of available colours , Comes with probe and t-piece and wire. Has a surround/frame so that when hole it cut it covers up the bad workmanship lol which is ideal for me

Fitted pics and review to come.
I was originally thinking centre console just infront of the ash tray
Although now, Im thinking bold and putting in the clocks at the bottom on the middle where the (P) sign (handbrake) normally is... Anyone know if its a seperate module to the normal cluster of flashy lights?
fit 2 for before and after intercooler???

fit 2 for before and after intercooler???
already thought about that and nearly done it, then thought whats really the point?? serves very little purpose when money could be best elsewhere
instead its paying for a fuel pressure gauge
Just EGT gauge now

what max temp do these read? 60'C or 50'C is quite common... and not going to be much use for pre-IC and marginal on stock IC/chipped cars if too low.
