Does anyone know if the Leon TDi SE has a variable turbo geometry turbo. I'm guessing it that would account for the greater power and torque over the S. Also I looked up the tdi se on United Motors and the spec for the '1.9 TDi 110 SE 5dr MY 2003' has 16" alloys - is this a new spec change or a miss quote? Couldnt find anything on Seat uk web site.

As far as I know, the tdi 110 does not have the variable turbo geometry. The tdi 150 PD does have the VTG...

Agent is correct ~ 110TDI has conventional turbo.

Differences between 90S and 110SE are pretty much down to different injectors and slightly "softer" engine map.

SE with 16" as std sounds like a mis-print.....but who knows - it might be a MY03 change (?). Worth a phone call.....

Here are some solid facts for you:

http://www.turbomaster.com/turismos_modelo.asp?fabricante=Seat&logo=seat

As you can see, the Leon has a GT1749V turbo.

If you look at this page
http://www.turbomaster.com/despieces/454161-0001.asp

It says that this is a VNT15 turbo charger.

So the answer is YES, the Leon TDI SE has a variable geometry turbo.

And if you open the bonnet, towards the back and on the left, you can see a round shiney thing, with tubes coming from it, which is a VNT actuator, which sort of gives it away that it's not a wastegated turbo.

vnt = variable nozzle turbine

Well I never......Langers does it again! :D

Thanks for the correction....that's twice now mate....

No problem mate!!! Just sharing info. Apparently on tdiclub they say the VNT15 turbo has a weak shaft, which puts a dampener on having fun like making turbo hybrids :(

The sad thing is that another mod is that the VNT17 compressor wheel fits inside the VNT15, virually turning the VNT15 into a VNT17. But with the weak shaft, it's risky. Anyway, it's another stealth mod to add to the list...
hybrid turbos.

Here's our turbo.

Langers,

Since you're "Mr Stealth Mod" ;) ~ did you ever look at the "beer mod" or bigger injectors?

PM me if necessary ~ realise that admission on here may de-stealthify them! :)

I was also just about to correct peps about the 110 having a VNT, but Langers beat me too it.......thought it was well known the 110 has variable vains over 90. Having said that, I believe there is a 110 in the US now that uses a different turbo to the euro 110...???? Langers...:D

So what's the difference between the 110 and 150 ?

much ? Even bigger injectors ? Aren't they both 1.9's ?

The obvious answer is Pump-Deuse vs "conventional" common-rail injection.

I'll cut my losses at that so Langers can't show me up again ;)

110 > 150 = Compression ratio, con rods, head, pistons, crank, turbo........basically, a sronger engine.

TDI110, to the best of my knowledge, they've never had the 110bhp engine in the US. The only VW diesel available is the 90bhp model. But they've had all the different 90bhp engines going!!!

But to the best of my knowledge, since 1998 when the TDI New Beetle was introduced, all TDI Golfs, Boras and Beetles in US have the VNT15 turbo unit, despite being a 90bhp engine.
The european 90bhp engine is different in that it has the fixed geometry turbo.

Mik, sorry but I'm going to do it again. The Leon tdi has never had any kind of common rail injection. Externally you can see 4 fuel lines leading from the fuel pump to engine, whereas with common rail you'd expect to see only one "common rail".

As TDI110 says, as well as having a PD fuel injection system, the 150 is a stronger engine.

Thats where I got my Wires crossed, the US has a VNT powered 90, not a 110 with std turbo.....whoops..

Having said that, I think the US might be getting/have just got the/or a variation of the 110 unit.

I didn't know that. That'll make them happy!! Maybe we'll get PD 150 engine in the Leon around the same time.... oooohh a flying pig past the window...:)

....Or even better....Leon 2.5 V6 TDi Cupra4 180......:D

Chipped the 180 V6 TDi makes 210bhp.....yum yum....

Shame the V6 probably wouldn't fit...

<wipes drool from chin> yeah, that would be damn fine!!! It's gotta fit!!! If somebody can wedge a V6 in an Ibiza, then it's gotta be possible in a Leon.

If it can be shoehorned into a Leon should also fit a Toledo.

Pity it will probably only be available in LHD if ever produced.

SEAT - Bar Stewards !!! Give us the PD 150 and stop ferkin' about !! (in RHD of course !!)

Theres a difference between fitting a V6 Petrol and a V6 Diesel....doubt the V6 TDi would fit, its add-on take up too much room....
