Hi, has anybody got any ideas about a reasonable suspension kit for the Arosa??? My TDI goes like stink but doesn't like the twisties. Does Seat or VW do a sport kit??

VW offer Eibach springs. But thats about it - I assume SEAT offer the same.

Drove in a mates LupoGTi with the Eibachs, and while its handling is improved, its quite harsh, and he tells me he can hit the bump stops under heavy cornering.

Basically, I think your best bet is a full kit. Your choices are fixed kit, a kit with adjustable damping, a kit with damping/height adjustables, or coilovers.

Your best bet is the fixed kit, which you can get for about £500 fitted. Bilstein and Koni do kits for the Lupo, which would also fit the Arosa.

Damping adjustables are a bit more expensive - but height adjustable ones are the daddies. Expect to pay about £900 for those, though.

Coilovers are height/damping adjustable but are VERY hard, I hear (despite being adjustable) - and I don't know of any of those kits for the Lupo/Arosa as of yet.

Hi jonjon,

Gmax do some springs that lower the car by 40mm and cost £97.29 and dampers for £42.24 - front and £33.49 for the rear (prices are for each damper)

For other kits trywww.needforspeed.co.uk :)

Getting Koni adjustables on next week will let you know what they are like.

I have fitted Patec lowered springs, which have given me a 40mm drop. The difference on cornering is unreal, they cost me about £90 from german car company. I have also got 15" alloys with 195/40/15 tyres on, this also assists with the bends. :D

Glad to hear you got it sorted.

Off to NYC tomorrow evening so am leaving the car at work which means that when I come back the Koni's will be on.

Which is nice.

Hi, i'm going to buy a new arosa at the end of this month
(well as soon as someone buy's mine....96' ibiza 1.4, 46k lowered 35mm on 15"s - £2750 if anyone interested). Just wondering if i'd be better getting a TDI or sport as you seem to know your stuff ....i see there's a bit of rivalry between the two, price isn't a major issue.
Also ....anyone got any opinions on the standard lowered suspension on the sport ....is it -30mm? or less? Anyone driven both with and without to see what the difference is and if it's in need of a proper drop. i.e -40mm? to get some low level roundabout flying? I live in mk - there's 150+ roundabouts so it's pretty important not to have a stodgy mess.
cheers andy :D

Well it all depends on what you want engine wise,
the sport is smooth and quite powerfull for its size, does need to be caned to feel quick but also can feel great cruising round at low speeds also, the Sport has passenger and side airbags, ABS and standard lower suspension that the TDI doesnt have, the TDI offers 144 LB FT of torque at about 2000 revs and feels quick on the roads but its a narrow band of power to keep the engine in, its steering is lighter and softer than the sport and it rolls around in the corners a lot more, however, the suspension etc can all be sorted later, as can interior styling changes (the sport has black instrument surrounds and leather wheel etc) i think it boils down to your engnie choice and whether you want the extra air bags!!

Hi!

So, I only can say that I'll never regret it buying an Arosa MK1 16v Sport. (is it right speaking english!? *lol*)

After buying on 28.07.2000 and driven 35000 km only form 04 - 08 every year got a few problems with the "EPC" lamp I'll have to say that the car is still quite powerfull.

About the springs. I've got a FK lowered spring kit which you can spin up and down (normal lowering in Germany with this 50/50).

Got spin it about 80/70 with 8Jx15" Et20 OZ Turbo Wheels with 5mm Adapters on the back axle.

Not so comfortable but ideal for me

So long, René

Got my Koni's on now and what an improvement. I can chuck the car into corners now with no worries what so ever. Will have to give em a proper road test so once I have I will let you all know what they are like.

Colin, how does the car handle day today, how does it handle a bump mid corner unsettleing the car?

I onlu ask cause these thigs are important to me, ive been in so many cars which are lowered and are great being flung round corners but shite at normal day to day and quick driving.!

Dave

Cause they are adjustable you can set them up to you desired strength. Chucking it round corners is excellent havent really come across big bumps in corners that have unsettled the car to much and day to day driving is fine its not to hard but like i said if they were to hard i can always loosen them.
