Not an Altea owner, but like them heaps, esp. the 2.0 TDI DSG...

Don't know if any of you have seen this? Just got March's Which? mag and there's their latest car safety stuff, and the Altea (and new Skoda Octavia) get a bit of a battering over the manual height adjusters on the front seats. Which? are demanding that VAG issue a recall for the SEAT and Skoda, but VAG have only agreed to change the design.

Problem is that rear passengers feet can easily trigger the bar that allows front seats to be moved forward. Not a prob until you're in a crash situation, when this could ram the front passengers against the dash. As seat belt buckle is attached to the seat, this wouldn't help those in the front. Worst scenario is if the airbag is triggered while those in the front are basically sat on top of it... ouch.

If you have electronic seat adjustment, there's no problem.

Be careful folks... and don't carry anyone in the back...

Yep, 5 out of 5 for Occupant safety in crash test and 3 out of 4 for Pedestrian safety.

I never carry any one in the back, so no problems there:). My March version of Which hasn't arrived.

I just received my monthly e-mail from Which (whch details stuff in the new issue) about this and also the magazine in the post today!

I was looking to see if it had been mentioned already before posting and found this thread!

I would have thought that if this problem exists on the Octavia and Altea that it might affect the new Toldeo also? and possibly the new Leon when it comes out later this year?

That is if they haven't fixed it by then ?

The SEAT 'spin' machine will no doubt tell us that it is another 'safety' feature...

My bedtime reading for tonight.

Altea = mature carefull owners who subscribe to Which with boyracer pretensions;).

OK read it now... that's a bit of a bummer considering the selling point of the Altea is safety. Which will just whine on about it for years if VW don't recall then I'll have a car like the rest which, Which doesn't like and doesn't mention. Think VW might be better to swallow it's pride than get agro from Which.

Come on it's been four days since this thread appeared and the thrill of the Altea seems to have been dampened by the Which Report with nothing appearing since then !.... err unless your all off getting off on the New Leon, better look... didn't that look like the Altea ?.:).

Just dont let anybody sit behind you with big feet and then you'll be sorted.
