Hi,

I own a Seat Ibiza S 2001 with the annoying Grundig Centre Console, Today ive purchased a cd changer, which all works ok. Im thinking about connecting a JBL: GTO-75.4 Amp, with some Infinity: Reference 9603i 6"x9" speakers. Really what i would like to ask is:

Is that Amp good, and will the centre console take it?

Thanks

James

Hi James

Yes that amp is good and so aer the speakers - not too sure about the 6x9s tho....

Anyway... NO.. the stereo wont take it as it dont have any preouts that the amp needs. You can however buy a speaker (line) to RCA convertor which will do the job... just not so sure on the quality youll have.

Now.. its a 4 channel amp - why not rid of the 6x9s and add a single 12" or 10" sub.....

I know wot u mean Rob - I have a Genesis 5 channel amp to install in my car when the weather gets better to do the work!! GGrrrr

It all depends on James budget - JLAudio, Genesis, Orion etc etc all cost a fair whack of money - better spent imo on that rather than jbl amps etc etc... but hey thats our opinion.

James... whats youre budget? What other setup have you got?

Have a look at www.caraudiodirect.co.uk for some scracking deals on ICE.

Right i went to SEAT the other day they said o no the loom for the CD Changer wont be their. They wanted near £400 to set it up. Of course i said no. Anyway went to this local Dealer and he said £235 so theirs my CD changer i did have £400, but i think i have sold my old CD Head unit for £60 so that goes to £460 maybe £500 if i push it.

If i could get my hands on a second hand Orion CS500.5 Channel Amp for about £50 would it be worth it.

Computer says no....

kiddin!! Well.. if its £50 and works without any probs - then Id guess its well worth it!! JUst had a check out on the specs of it and although the quoted figures are quite good, they dont mention any RMS figures!!

So for a start its worth it mate yes.

Your main prob at the moment is the HU - ive got my HU installed in the glovebox at the moment (JVC SH909R) and it sounds a lot better than the standard HU which is utter poo - even with the standard speakers!! Im chaning my front speakers to Boston 6.5Pro comps - as soon as I get time.

Ive goen to the extreme of installing an in car pc because I cannot get a stereo installed where I want it!! Quite extreme I know, but its going to be worth it.

Ditch the 6x9s mate - save ur cash on them and buy yourself a sub which will give you proper bass!! SO youll have a 4 channel or even a 5 channel amp - run the fronts off channels 1+2 and the sub off the sub output on that Orion amp. Now you have 2 channels still to use up (3+4) either add some rear fill speakers but have the main stage coming from the front ok? Or you can be clever and bridge the 4 outputs and run them to the fronts which will give you even more output. You much make sure the speakers can handle it aswell.

JBL make some good kit so don't go knocking them. You're certainly not waisting your time with a JBL amp

Also if you can get the Orion for £50 go for it, Orion make some very nice sounding kit so it should do the job nicely ;)

Use the Alpine speaker to RCA convertor and it'll sound fine. I know a few people that have done this and been very happy with the results.

Thanks again, Loads to think about now. What do Infinity Subs sound like, ive read that their speakers are good. I like the Idea of In Car PC, thatll wait tho, till i get me a better job. Never know, amp is on ebay could get it for less than £50. Id be well happy then.

So Far then:

CXDP880 - Guy said it would be fine
ORION CS500 5 Channel Amp
Infinity: Reference 1230w - 12" subwoofer
Infinity: Reference 6502i

Hopefully, that should just about cover it.

Im new at this but i cant see any problems to start. But as i said i am new at this.

Thanks for all your help!

James

Dont forget the cost of power cabling, speaker cables, RCA cables aswell.... or you wont have a system up and running!! LOL.

Infinity subs are very good, used to have a few in the past. I tell you what sub really amazed me a couple of weeks ago... the JBL GT4 10" sub. A mate has it in his car and I had a listen to it before he told me what it was and I liked the sound it produced. Then he showed me!! And it didnt surprise me that much but the cost did...... £30 from motorworld!!

How about that?? Single 10" JBL Sub... £29.99. Bargain or what.

You can buy RCA cables from your local ICE dealer, halfords or any hifi dealer but make sure its going to be long enough to reach the boot from the stock location.

Try here:

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/default.php?cPath=73_56_67

different length RCA cables and different quality aswell.
Try locally first if I was you James.

Where are ya anyway?
