Quick bit of history.....
Anyone who's been on Scoobynet is likely to have heard of Mark Underwood aka the "Wax Wizard". Almost god-like status on that site.
He sells premium hand-blended pure carnauba waxes, and makes EVERYTHING you could ever want to clean and protect your car. He's now sold a load of formulas to a big name, so they'll be more widely available soon. His history includes (as I understand it) key input to the forumlation of Zymol waxes which are so highly regarded.
Unfortunately his waxes are a little too expensive for me ('cos I'm tight! ;) ), but I heard enough about his pure Carnauba wax to try a cheaper brand and I'm 100% converted.
Anyway - this is about his wheel cleaner.
I have NEVER used any of the standard wheel cleaner products as I know they contain acid to soften brake-dust build up. This has always put me off....big-time.
I'd read good comments about Mark's wheel cleaner though - both he and Zymol produce a citrus-based cleaner that is "kind" but effective.
Finally got in touch last week, and was surprised to find he wants only £7.50 (inc vat & deliv) for a 500ml bottle. Ordered.
Arrived last night.......
Now I should point out that I've been getting p1ssed off about my alloys. Car is only 6 months old, and I've tried (as hard as 2 young kids will let me) to keep them waxed.....with some success. Despite this the trailing edges of the spokes on all 4 were starting to "yellow" due to brake dust build up - I guess that surface is protected from rain spray, so crud has more opportunity to eat into the surface.
Got the wheel cleaner - "Spray or paint on, allow to soak, then rinse off". OK. Found an old 1" wide paint brush that was still soft. Sprayed wheel and then brushed in......could see sh1te coming off immediately.
Approx 5 mins per wheel - now they are GLEAMING. Real "squeaky clean" - like a Fairy Liquid advert. :) Added a coat of wax to protect them - spanky.
I reckon I used less than 50ml (i.e 75p worth) to clean all the wheels. I consider that good value!
If anyone is interested, you can contact Mark on mark.underwood@swissol.co.uk
PS ~ I aint no chemist, but before anyone points out that "citrus-based" implies citric acid.....I'm aware of this. Whilst I can stomach a glass of orange juice, I tend to pass when offered some sulphuric-ade. :)
