View Full Version : V5 Idle Speed
Does anyone know what the idle speed of a V5 should be?
Mine seems lumpy at just slightly over 600rpm, it's been back to the dealer to get it setup but they say it is correct.
Any info would be appreciated as I will be ringing the garage very soon!!
Cheers
Not sure what it should be, but mine sits at exactly the same revs as yours....
Do you have any kind of vibrating when it's idling, like when the engines just about on the point of stalling or is it nice and smooth?
I wouldn't say it's vibrating, but you do think it's going to stall.
When I take my foot off the acelerator in slow traffic it seems to dip down to about 500 revs and then back up to 600/700.
I get the same with mine, about 600revs, I wouldn't say its lumpy but I do feel it and sometimes it seems its going to stall.
Looks like everything is OK then, booked it into the garage today anyway for a checkup but seems like it may be a wasted journey!!
Thanks for the info guys

I'm told lumpy idle comes from the engine configuration. I've owned a straight 5 and the idle was creamy smooth but the last Seat engineer I spoke to said is was because the engine was essentially a V6 with one front cylinder lopped off. It was the same in Golf and Passat V5s I test drove before buying the Toledo
I had a feeling it may be something to do with that, I could never understand how they get an odd number to balance. Obviously they can't!!!!!
