Hi

Finally got round to putting pics of new motor on here. Missing the Leon lots but i know my bank won't. Must admit changing to my first diesel has been a bit of a shock, but not all bad.

Main gripe is why does 1st gear have to be sooooo short, oh and the brakes could do with being a bit beefier. Other than that i can confirm that the handling is ace for such a tall car and the kids and dogs love it. It even impresses my most nurdy petrolhead mates.

Other big plus is the rarity in this area, only seen 3 others on the road in 6 months and one of them is the dealer demo.

Nice. Need to change your sig. ;)

I do like the Altea a lot - especially in platinum with the 17" wheels.

2.0 TDI sport I presume?

Haven't had time for that yet. Yes it's a 2.0 TDI Sport, only option was the wheels.
Tried to get multi CD but could not get in time for 1st March. As for sat nav, way to expensive.

Just remembered, does anyone else find the seatbelt warning beep really annoying?? After driving for 15 years i have a set routine.

1. get in
2. put keys in ignition
3. start up
4. put belt on

I just can't do it any other way.

It looks remarkably like mine:).

No never heard seat belt warning signal... I may do it in the correct order or perhaps I don't have it fitted. Can't comment on 1st since with the DSG it's always in the right gear;).

No parking sensors, so far haven't had a problem.

If anyone has read this months Top Gear mag, the long term test on the MkV Golf 2.0 TDI. The driver has the same problem with the seatbelt warning beep. Twas driving him mad too!

Cheers

First time I've seen one in the platinum, only ever seen in red,me quite like...
The honda jazz I had when my leon was in the bodyshop had a seatbelt warning beep too, which was bl***y annoying-it went on for about 15 secs, then stopped and started up again after a minute or so,annoying when I was only driving to the top of the street to get to my garage

Glad to here you like it. Interested to hear you have the seat belt warning system - I wondered if it would suddenly go on the spec as the cars tested that got 5 star NCAP rating had it. I'll have to go through the other things we thing were missing on spec to see if they have been added now.

No seatbelt warning beep here either, and don't get me started on the missing heated mirrors, missing glovebox light, missing info display... etc etc

Nice car!!!

I too have noticed the rarity (one of the reasons why I went for it as it didnt seem to litter the roads like your usual rep car) however I only notice this when I'm not at work!!!

Watch out for those cats!!!! they like the front because its easy to stomp all over to get to the top!

Looks very cool man, the rarity is excellent. The only people I know with Alteas are you guys, don't think I've spotted any of you in my travels yet though!

On Altea's spotted since May last year. Some on a truck in Luxembourg in May. The demo car in May in Switzerland in a Seat dealer was on loan so I didn't get a look as we called in on passing by, seeing the Altea adverts up all over Switzerland. It went on sale May there last year.

Then I got to drive the demo one and also saw the same demo one at Canary Wharf motor show. Same day as the test drive it shot past outside. Then nothing till about December when I saw one on the roads in central London. Then in January I saw one on a roundabout in Milton Keynes. Oh and I saw one in a car park in Berlin airport in September. This month I saw one on a transporter going down the M1.... so yes they are rare on the roads.

Lucky we have this support network else we would have physiological problems;).

Unlike Picassos they aren't being sold for £10,000 or less with the model to be replaced and don't look like vans. Think it's the higher cost and Seat's unwillingness to dump models in the UK. I think an "Alfa MPV" with VW / Audi parts is a nice car to have.

Believe me there is plenty going round Milton Keynes! but outside of that, they are very rare.

I agree with you about the build quality, absolutely solid - thanks to VW high standards.

I've not had the rattles people are experiencing (but there is plenty of time for that yet) nor have I had the seat belt issues or the foot mat problems, mine were attached when I picked it up and I've already taken them out and clipped them back in without any problems. I think mine was built this year?

I think the car looks great, its an ominous presence and I have great pleasure in driving at "running it in" pace with impatient people getting right up your "rear end" and then putting my foot down "just abit", especially at the foot of a hill - that torque kicks in and they disappear quite quickly!!!

Oh you get all of that in your last para. I get that and apply the same techniques.

You have to be a little carefull with the DSG since I think me and a DSG Toureg were both making a dash for the same gap on the M1 recently, so whilst you can pick up speed, run though the gears quickly to get that gap in the road, if somebody else has the same capability, you have to watch out;).

No rattles on mine except a creak from the sun roof cover that just needs pressing when it starts to vibrate. The rest is silent except for the wind noise now burried under the sound system. I am more than pleased although I'll be missing it soon since I'm off on hols, so last chance for a bit for any one to ask me about changing the speakers  ....

Been shopping at Trenton's perchance???

Yes, as far a dealers go they have always been reasonable with me. When they made a cock up on my Leon they owned up before i spotted it and fixed it no probs.

You will see my old Cupra with pride of place in the showroom window. When i get stopped at the traffic lights right outside it brings a little tear to me eye.

Why Why Why do we all get old and sensible (ok well some of us)!!!

Hi Gilrick, nice car - you're clearly someone with taste & discernment ;)

I've had mine all of 4 days and I'm amazed at the number of people on the roads who look at the car, checking it out. Twice I've returned to a parking spot to find folk admiring the car, then asking me all about it.

Tell, your observation about the Altea being like an Alfa MPV is spot on, one of my mates commented on the Alfa resemblance.

The only sour note I can report was yesterday when I was showing the car to my boss.
I'd just opened the driver's door when we heard a salvo of splats and hey presto!
Birdsh1t all over the exterior.
And a couple of spots inside on the carpet.
And a couple of spots on the driver's seat

I'm now carrying a camouflage jacket and a shotgun in the boot, that pigeon won't get away with it...

Cheers Seasider,

At least its only birdshit, Just noticed that the bloody dog has eaten the webbing pocket on the side of the boot. Not a happy chappy!

Ummmm - thanks for the tip, I won't take mother's dog in the back of it.

On the bird mess, that's inline with what people say about no drain and water falls straight in;). I'll watch out for the birds.
