I have seen this curpra bonnet vent and thinking of getting one.

what cars were it available on?

the picture is of an rgm stick on vent; is it possible to get a working one, if so does it suck cool air in or let hot air away from the turbo?

rgm one is round the wrong way for a start:)
the proper one takes hot air away from engine bay as it is finnde toward the rear sjb sport stock them i think, or richardsons have one working on their cordie demo car:cheers:

Rumour has it the proper one was actually to force cold air onto the power steering for the rally cars. ( a la RSD ).

can think of a better way of cooling the power steering than by a bonnet vent

PWR steering lol

it's an air vent as the F2's were not exactly as per the production models.

I suppose you could fit it to the LHS & cut the bonnet.

the shape of the vent is profiled towards the rear so as cold air goes over the bonnet it draws the hot air out (even from the power steering, do rally cars have this btw?)the f2 front bumper has those big vents in the draw in cold air at the bottom and force the hot air ,which rises yeh? up and out the top of the bonnet thru the vent.
this is just my perception of how it works, could be all bollocks of course:cheers:

i looked at 1 of those and cutting and fitting 2 me old 16v. only problem is where it is mounted on the rally car. 2 get the same look on a standard car u'd b putting it right over the battery

water not being good for the battery as well :)

i was thinking. if you 'ram' more air into the car - shouldn't you think about getting it out too?

I was looking at making up some bonnet jacks (not pretty) to see if they had an effect at cooling the under bonnet temps

how's about taking the bonnet off compleatly and building a little rain hat 4 the battery and distributor:)

also not pretty but u aint getin much more air in than that and it wouldn't get damaged @ track days:D am i fulla good ideas or not ??

I had a new bonnet for a hundred quid painted last year (ultra thick paint) so can't comment on stone chips really (35k & have 2)

mind you - I might jack the back up for the summer (as it is safe where I park over night) & if i cna make it secure.

Look www.carstyling.net and there Seat Leon. There is good looking vents in black Leon.
I was just wondering if it sucks air out from wrong place? Turbo and and other hot parts are behind engine. Or is there another purpose to this kind of vent?

battery cover? ws thinking that too .small holed mesh under it to slow the rain and when your going along is much rain gonna get in as it will run around the vent and wen engine is hot the water wil just evaporate just a thought ,and if yer have a garage to keep it in can't see there being much wet getting in.just more bolocks perhaps?:D

Please excuse my ignorance - but why not get a proper scoop like on an impreza and throw the air in?

F2 Stu

Practical as it may be, but the imprezza scoop has become a bit of a cliche with modifing cars becuase its been done to death(seen too many dummy RGM scooby scoops glued to bonnets on novas etc)

Did see a scooby scoop on a bonnet of a sierra swiveled thru 180 degres and turned it into a vent, nice touch I thought, like on the old Trans Am's and Pontiac Firebird scoop/vent

When I was visiting RSD a year or so ago the guys there told me the Seat vent originated on the works rally cars for purely practical reasaons. It was located on the nearside bonnet position coz the battery was relocated & cooling/breathing had been also been fully reworked/remapped.

Vent was made available to public due to "popular demand" but due to different engine layout had no practical value when in position above battery and often cacked up the electrics by letting rain pour into the bay! Unless, of course, it was just stuck on - Nova stylie.

Looks good (if you like that sort of thing) but if you`re looking for practical improvements in airflow & cooling you`ll be much better off looking at vents & /ducting designed to work with the same engine bay layout as standard seat models.

Other than that anyone got a wind tunnel or rolling road in their garage?

80% air to the Intercooler, 20% to the Turbo. Worth 10bhp I was told.

sorry to drap this topic up again - ive still not got one!!!

is the part available from seat? in the past the parts have been really cheap. if i called up my local dealer would i ask for a bonnet vent from a 98 F2 ibiza cupra?

apparantly the seat version has soem bolts that go throught drill holes in the bonnet - the aftermarket versions are stuck on.

Not a SEAT part

try https://www.needforspeed.co.uk/index/searchbyvehicle_partno.asp?PartNo=AC47&LineNo=13351000 that is a 'stick on' as all of them will be

i was told by a guy in a cupra with the vent on his car that he got the vent as standard and you could buy it from seat.

If you can't get one from Seat - our local Halfords has one in for about £20.
You could drill it I guess...
