And, I got questions. The retaining spring that is on the stock pads are not on these new Pagids. I dont really see how much the retaining spring helps since the pads fit nicely anyway. Is this wrong?

Also, there was a metal plate on the back of the stock pads (which could not be removed). I guess this is not needed with the new Pagids either?

You should have the anti rattle springs. Some monkeys fitted my pads and didn't position the springs properly and they rattled like a *******. So I had to refit them properly myself.

I had thin metal plate that goes between the piston and the pads Jason said.

Cheers,

Steve

But... the pagids did not have the anti rattle springs, and there was NO WAY of taking the springs of the old pads. Should they have been delivered with the springs?

They should come with springs on them - on Ibizas anyway (I don't know what car you drive)

The thin metal plates are anti-squeel shims usually to prevent sqeeling under braking when the pad moves against the piston.

Make sure you use plenty of copper grease on faces that may rub, i.e. top and bottom edges and back of pads.

Steve>> Well, it's a Cordoba Cupra, but it has all the same parts as the Ibiza anyway :)

Guess I should talk to provider of the Pagid pads... I thought it was strange that there was no spring! :)

Maybe you've got the wrong ones, I've got pagids on my ibiza and they came with the springs on them!

Dont think they are the wrong ones. They are exactly the same as the stock ones, except the spring (the little hole where the spring mounts to is there)

I'd take them back mate, sounds like you've got an incomplete set. They should have springs on them out of the box. Get a replacement set they're well worth having on!

Defo need the springs on the pads, sounds like u've been sent the wrong set.

I did read in my old haynes that some SEATS came with different calipers (some Girling and some other make)

check which part no. pads u got first, then check the caliper.

Cordoba Cupra (2.0 16v?) should have Girling calipers. Any pads used with these calipers should have an integral anti-rattle spring. If they're the same as my 8v Ibiza Cupra (256mm discs), the pads are as used on mk3 Golf TDi. If your Cordy has 280mm discs (as a 2.0 16v should from memory), I gather the set up is the same but the caliper carrier spaces the caliper out to accomodate the bigger disc. From the sounds of it, I think you may have been supplied with the wrong pads...

Hello.
The Pagids should have the spring on the top of the pad, rivited into the top lug. If you have no spring arrangement on there then they might be the right part number (FR5051 is the right one and same as I use) BUT they might be defective if they are missing this spring. The rear plate is an anti squeel one and is stuck to the pads rear.

If yours don't have springs they are faulty and should be replaced.

regards
Bill

20vT in a Cordy? Are you in the UK? Just tend to think of this as a UK forum and I didn't think they'd ever made any Cordy 20vT right hookers...

Whatever, if it's the same brakes as a 20vT Ibiza Cupra, they're the same as a 2.0 16v Ibiza/Cordy, so comments still stand. Sounds like either the wrong pads or (as the numers sound corrent) a duff set. Get 'em changed.

hopkinsgm>> Nope, I am in Sweden. I guess they don't sell the Cordy Cupra in the UK then? You aren't missing much more than a little more trunk space anyway :)

I got a reply from the people I bought my pagids from. Translated from swedish it pretty much comes out to:

"The pagids you bought are racing pads and do not come with details like retaining springs and anti squeek plates."

As I bought the "fast road" pads FR5051, shouldn't they come with these details? are they just screwing me or what?

No - to the best of my knowledge the 99-> Cordoba was never available in UK with 20vT engine.

As for your parts dealer, I think he's wrong. Fast Road pads are not race pads - they are Fast Road pads. The name says it all really. For driving fast on roads and track day use. But racing? I think not.

I fitted Pagid Fast Road pads to my '99 8v Ibiza Cupra Sport about a month ago which had anti-rattle springs rivetted in. As did the EBC GreenStuff pads that came out - also a Fast Road (allegedly) item. I can't put my hand on the invoice to check the part number at the moment. It's possible that this is another regional variation thing, but I wouldn't have thought so.
