View Full Version : 1.8 20VT Intermittent starting fault when engine is HOT.
 Engine turns over ok but does not fire. Eventually starts after multiple crankings, or if it is left to cool down. On one occasion the EMC warning lamp came up and stayed up even when the engine did start, but the following morning the cold start was as usual no problem and the EMC alarm stayed off.
Car only coming up for 4 years old and 26k miles.
Any suggestions would be greatfully accepted.
Take a look at relay 30, this is a known cause of starting problems!
Hi fredt
Thanks for the tip.
Do you know the function of relay 30 (apart from being a known cause of starting problems !!) ?
fuel pump relay I believe? has been the topic of disscussion on http://www.citroenpicasso.org.uk/ford/ in case of intermittent starting problems several times

I would say its the coolant temp sender. Normally 4 pin green. These are always packing in giving hot start problems.
 Has been no trouble since 20th March (weather too cold ?) but today no hot start.
Where is relay 20 and coolant temperature sensor so I can give them the onceover ?
Hope every body is back from their Easter Hols !!
wont be the full answer i expect but if the EMC light has been on it would have logged a fault that may point you in a positive direction ?
Unfortunately I was unable to get to the dealer before the EMC alarm had cleared.
So I had to pay £25 for the priviledge of being told that there was no "record" of any problem on the memory.
It looks as if Cupra Matt may have been right.
This week the engine management alarm came up and stayed up, although the car appeared ok.
The Main Dealer said the problem was the coolant temperature sender and has changed it.
Now it remains to be seen whether the hot start problem re-occurs. :-o
