Have just bought some Vibe Black Hex 6x9's (these any good?).

Installed them, they sound ok, but distort at higher volumes. Would getting an amp mean less distortion if the speakers were hooked up to it?

also:

How do you power an in car amp?
Can you control speaker volumes from it?
Will it improve my sound?

Thanks

How do you power an in car amp?

You'd have to search that one but i'd imagine there is a gromit somewhere in the bulkhead to past through a power cable from the battery c/w fuse, and the earth can be taken from somewhere in th boot.

Can you control speaker volumes from it?

Depends on which amp you buy, most have this feature.

Will it improve my sound?

Yes sound quality will improve and will be alot louder too.

You might as well upgrade the front door speakers aswell and buy a 4 channel amp to power all 4.

So they are definately powered by the car battery? Whats all the stuff on the back of aftermarket head units? Loads of connection points.

From your head unit you will have an RCA output which will be connected to the amp to give it the sound, there will also be a remote wire which will prob be light blue or yellow which will mean the amp will only be powered when the head unit in on, the other connections for the amp are the earth and power (from the batt.)

ok so you can connect an Amp to the HU but need to earch and power it from the battery anyway?

Or do you connect the Amp to the HU and power the amp separately?

sorry i'm a novice!

power the amp serparatly, yes.

If you search on the web there will be a diagram of how you set it up which would explain it well.

from the hu is:
rca leads - ammount depends on hu and amp if just for a set of 6 x 9's 1 set will do
1 x remote wire which tells your amp when to turn on...

then from the battery

1 x power cable with inline fuse taken from positive on bat to power point on amp

then from amp

1 x earth wire connceted to any bare metal in boot

wires to speakers.....2 to each speaker in your case

Can you explain this. What you mean 1 set will do?

See attachment, a wee diagram showing all connections of the amp.

BTW, H/U means Head Unit.

Yeah, i heard its better to enclose them. I know people hate 6 x 9's but i dont want to go down the Subwoofer route of things so 6 x 9's is a compromise
