View Full Version : Blyton and exploding shocks
Hi
Just a quick note about Spax shocks
I have spax coilovers on my Ibiza (similar, although not same, to RSX kit) - special order TAAS501HG 9649SPAX066 - and both the fronts blew their oil seals at Blyton. They take 1 MONTH to get !
Found out when checking front suspension last night - oil all over springs and when I disassembled the struts, found that the dampers were half empty of oil - there was oil on the tires also - could explain my lack of grip at Blyton !!!!!!
Cheers

Bloody good reason ! I dont suppose tires grip very well if there is oil on them ! last time I checked it was pretty slippery stuff.
No one services spax as most of them are not rebuildable (other than v.expensive TraxSpax).

I heard that spax can do this or even seize if you turn up the rebound setting too much before they are "run in" Just a thought. Oh and spax don't tell you this though.

Blimey.
Spax are of similar ilk to AVO in construction I have been told.
Are the to oil seals peaned in on yours Rob?
I commented on the dive under braking in a picture Glyn showed me, so I guess knackered shocks were a major contributor.
Sorry to hear about the problems.
It was a bit bumpy there but not that bad. - The billies keep on working.
regards
Bill

Hi Bill
I dont think the bumps were to blame - shocks just worn out i think - 1 yrs racing followed by 12-or-so trackdays - the seals are non changeable - have ordered new shocks with 'a new improved double oil seal design'.
