My beloved TDISE Leon has gone (sold today). I'm now in the position of having cash to purhcase either a 1.6 stylance or 2.0 TDI sport. i know they're very different but i only cover 8,000 miles pa so not sure if the £3000 difference is worth it or not. my question is:

how much did you pay for your Altea's? please include whether it was new or not, also any extras.

thanks

Can't offer any figures on secondhand altea's, but on my recent test drives i've discovered that after driving a Golf 1.9 TDI (130) for 3 years, petrol engines don't really cut it for me any more.

I've driven a 2.0 Mazda 3 sport, and the new Golf GTI, and yes - they can be fast, but they don't have the grunt of diesel, with the golf GTIyou nearly got the same in gear acceleration as my TDI, and if you held onto the gears it did get fun :) but i've realised that i don't want to drive cars at 6000 RPM to get somewhere fast, the golf TDI does just fine at 2-3000rpm.

I suppose a 3.0 litre V6 would suit me, but i can't afford the fuel :)

£3000 is a lot of money so i'd say you need to test drive both to see if you can drop from a 110 bhp diesel with its torque to a 1.6 petrol, but i think you'll fall in love with the 140 bhp TDI sport.

If you have the money it must be the 2.0TDi sport. Remember the Altea is a big heavy car, 1510 Kgs compared to a Leon at 1322 KGS, I wouldn't think the 1.6 would really cut it.

If you drive the TDi Sport, my guess is you'll buy one. It's not just the grunt, it's the fuss free way it handles it. Go on! get one!!

Sounds like a very good deal, I paid quite a bit more than that. Mind you I did have a trade in that got a good price.

I've got a 2.0TDI, but currently have a 1.6 Sylance courtesy car, it does not compare at all in quality or performance, its hard to believe they are the same car.

Most of the improvements are from the sport spec though.
