Your in the same boat as me ;)
The 1.4 isn't renowed for its tunability short of putting a blower or a bigger motor in there to replace the standard hair dryer there isn't much to be done. By the sounds of it you have done all i can think of without the man in the Gray suit having a feild day!

Best thing to do is try and make it handle like a go cart and get them on the twisty stuff:D

Piper Cam if you're feeling adventurous, alse AmD chip

but handling is the best way forward if you want it to keep up.

About £260 I think plus a fair wack of labour.

it's a more agressive cam profile letting more fuel and air in.

Apols if this sounds patronising - I don't mean to make you feel thicker than you apparently do already... Ain't no such thing as stupid questions - remember, none of us were born with this knowledge, if you can benefit from the knowledge of anyone on this forum (even mine) then that's good and the forum is serving its' purpose. So, back to your query...

Piper are a cam manufacturer. The cam is the thing that opens and closes the valves that let air and fuel into the cylinder (where they get burnt) and then let exhaust gases out. So, by opening the valves for longer (or opening them further) you get more mixture in which will ignite more violently producing a bigger bang inside the cylinder. Obviously, burning more mixture means getting rid of more exhaust too. All of this results in more "go".

To make the most of it, you'll also need to get a chip mapped to provide extra fuel to capitalise on this.

yep i am a 1.4 owner and as much as you guys may love them i dont, ive spent around £1000 as doing it up and although it does look nice thats all it has......looks. I would spend your money on handling as the engine with a measly 60 bhp as standard, i really donk think you get much brake from for you money, if any body disagrees whats difference with 10 bhp on a 1.4 with hardly any displacement???? with a top end of 95 - 100 mph Even nova SR are slighty faster almost same Brake but smaller = 150 kg ligher. If anything spend the money on looks as when your out driving through town its first impressions that count and when people turn and look, thats what feels good.
But is upsetting when a punto 1.2 sporting can keep up : ( and vtr can piss all over me : ( : (

No what your saying mate i am very disappointed in the performance of the 1.4s ! :(
There ain't no point in racing anything in a straight line as you will lose! my grans 1.4 fiesta out acclerates mine:o
When i first got it i thought about Nitros [my mate was selling a system cheap] but at the end of the day if you added 50bhp [pretty much standard] you are almost douberling the power and i think my poor little Seat would blow somthing not good when you voided the warrenty:eek:
Plus most people won't insure you!! so i decided to get a 1.8 20v turbo [CAN afford the car etc..] but then i phoned Mr grey suit "ARRRRR Mr Taylor that will be £1700 a year"
I'm 20 with 3 years no claims gareged and thatcham one etc..
So it seems that i have to wait till November [4 years no claims] when my insurace magicaly drops to £978] what the f***k is all that about.
Anyway i'm at work and i'm getting wind up so i'm off Good motoring to everyone and big respect to this site.:D

I have a Piper cam kit for sale. It contains the cam plus the new uprated hydraulic tappets.

It cost me £280 and will fit any 1.4 engines with the AEX engine code.

Had it in my Ibiza for under 3000miles and took it off when seelling the car.

If anyone is interested they can have it for £170. Documentation says a 12-15 bhp increase though id put in a power boost valve to get the most from this mod.

Anyone interested?!?!

I also have a 1.4 mk3 ibiza, iv`e spent quite a bit on the looks of the car, going for 17`s and lowering, single wiper, and a few other minor mods. Im also now looking to attend to some performance mods. got an induction kit coming and the powerflow exhaust is on but iv`e had to keep the catalytic converter in the system, so i think that anything that I do to the engine won`t really do much because the cat saps power, doesn`t it? I cant remove the cat as it will invalidate the cars warranty.

What the hell can I do?

get cold air to it will help it no end.

Run at least one cold air pipe to the induction kit & if you can - make a screen to keep the hot air out.

AMD can chip your 1.4 without any problems at all - they're based just north of Oxford - that'll give you the same kind of bhp as removing your cat - it's just legal to do it!

you could look at porting the head etc - but actual gains aren't going to be high.

A reader of PVW wrote in recently asking what to do to his 60bhp Polo - he said he was aiming for 90bhp - they told him that he was dreaming. Not helpful.

Chip, possible cam, exhaust, induction kit, cold air feed is about as far as you can go I'm afraid.

so, from what I can gather, I should remove the hot air feed pipe from my air intake then !!

It's broke anyway, just where it is fixed next to the exhaust....

Or am I gettin' the wrong end of the stick ???

this is the way I have gone, matched suspension kit, ARB uprated brakes and a 305 mm front disc conversion,

makes it handle and stop as good or better than a cupra

Took the hot air collector off my manifold, that manky paper pipe & most of the tube off the airbox after a week of having my ibiza

then ran a 75mm pipe from the grill right to the neck of the airbox & that way kept the engine on nice cold air.

Not sure how it'd like it in the winter with carb freezing ideas - cos I had my Jetex by August & that just sucks in hot air from the engine block as well as getting plentyful amounts of cold air.

Going to jack the back of my bonnet up once I've made the brackets & improve the cold air flow too.

in short - take off the hot air feed :D

Take care taking the bolts off the manifold - they get v hot & don't come undone easily. you don't want to crack the casting - so you might want to cut / rip / pull the cover off

make sure the engine is cold though!!
