View Full Version : Ibiza ICE - newbie questions

Hi there,

Last month, I bought a new Ibiza 1.4 Chill (i.e. one of the last of the "old" model) in Arctic grey (silver). It looks like it means business. Okay, so some might say it's underpowered but hey it's got climate control and front fog lights (which I've never used) and it's fine for around-town driving.

Unfortunately, when there's a song with just a smidgen of bass, the front speakers sound like there's a bee trapped in the glove compartment and as for the rear ones...

Remembering that I've in effect bought a VW Polo with lots of extras thown in for free, I don't fancy spending the few thousand pounds I've saved on ICE. And yet I would like to be able to listen to the radio/tape player without having to adjust the bass every five minutes.

So what are my options, in order of cost. Is it just a case of replacing the speakers? Or is a new amp required? What do they cost to have fitted as I don't fancy ripping my nice new car apart?

I'm happy to leave everything as it is, but I'd like some expert advice to see what my options are.

Thanks for listening,

David

Hi David,

I can totally agree with you about the standard speakers in the Ibiza, i ripped all mine out after having the car for only 6 days.

I think your best route is to replace the front and rear speakers with some better quality speakers. The standard head unit is quite powerful kicking out 4x20wrms, its just the standard speakers make it sound so sh*t.

You could if you wanted add an amp, the only real advantage you will get though is more volume. The downside however is that it will cost you a small fortune in wiring, labour and an amp.

Upgrade the standard speakers, if your still not happy with the volume then you can always add an amp later.....

As for costs, depends what speakers you go for? But probably between £100-150 to replace all the speakers...
