Hi,
Couple of questions for any 16v owners. Im wondering what other people average in fuel economy terms? I find that my 16v is quite poor round town but quite good on a run. Oficial figures say 42mpg combined but i get about 40 on average ion the motorway, thats sitting at approx 80 so not fuel efficient speed. Round town i think it dips into the low 30's, for example, after filling up last week i have done 80 miles and the gauge is between three quarters and half full, at that rate i will get 200 miles before i fill up again, the most i ever saw out of one tankfull was 280 miles. Is this in keeping with other peoples findings?
Also tyres, my 16v was supplied with Firestones, (51 reg) and i find them dissapointing, lots of tyre noise and very poor wet weather grip, does anyone ellse have other tyres and what are the findings etc?
cheers
Dave
The most had out of mine was 240 but when i got the 17's on i got 180 then when i put the induction kit on the most i was able to get was 120 then realised that i was driving to hear the sound ie flat out the whole time my average is now 180ish to a tank.
Whe i went to gti on the weekend i was able to get 200 well i'm on 191 but reckon i can get that extra 9 before i runs out.

Just to let you all know what you are missing, I've seen over 400mls on a tank, this drops to about 350mls if I drive quick-ish.
I'm now on my 3rd set of front firestone tyres(the 173lb/ft torque really seems to rip them up), when new they seem to grip really well, but once half used their wet weather grip really drops off.
They really are a very cheap tyre though, I pay £42 each fitted for Firestones, Pirelli's/Michelins are £70+ each!!.
I'd agree with that
I do about 330 miles a week to work and it uses between 1/2 and 3/4 of fuel
110 their and back uses just under a quarter:p :p :p :p
the fuel warning light comes on to early
I manage to get about 220 miles out of a tank on average.

Bah.
If only they did a GT TDi Lupo, I'd be sold :) Wonder if I could shoe-horn a 2.5litre V6 TDi in ?? ;) MMmmm....Torque steer ....
Fantastic engine, that 1.4TDi lump....
Now getting 196 before I run out of guts to keep going should be able to get 200 now though.

i sat down and worked out after getting a tank full of fuel i had over 2 weeks averaged 35mpg round town and some minor trips on a roads etc etc, thats running on optimax. Poses another qustion, ive been running optimax now for a while and feel that although expensive it does do exactly what it says on the tin so to speak....imy car is smoother and torquier low down, wouldnt say it felf quicker, just nicer to drive, no loss of economy etc, has anyone else tried this stuff?? i was curious about trying it after EVO magazine did an in depth test and came out with excellent results.
Dave
Tried it and noticed no difference in my car tried it back to back with ordinary unleaded. Ran my car with unleaded dry then filled it up with optimax and noticed no difference so stopped using it.

I tried it in mine for quite a while and went from getting a very consistent 180-190 miles per tank of normal unleaded to getting around 210 miles to a tank with Optimax.
Ive now gone back to using normal unleaded as ive moved house and no longer live anywhere near a shell garage but if i could still get hold of it easily then i would be using it.
Might have to re-try optimax for a while then

I noticed fantastic results with my Lupo, but then its recommended that I run it on 98 RON anyway. Runs like shit on 95RON
I've been told that the higher state of tune your car is, the more effect it has?
Not sure though.

Yes the higher state of tune the engine the better it will work, some cars in japan run on 100+ octane which is how such big power outputs are achieved. Your lupo is not in any higher state of tune than any other gti, its just most modern cars are desighned to run 95-97/98 octane anyways, so higher octane is bound to give better results.

Mine, an most other cars I assume, can actually run on 91RON
91 RON! Whats that all about? Can you *get* 91 RON??

The 16v should run on 98RON, but can run on 95RON with a loss in performance. Stated in the book my friends.
"ModdedCars" AND "Moddedcars2", are you the same person?

:p to Gray ;) and isn't the 'SEATEnhusiasts' word banned in here? ;)
"We own the 16v" ?? *Sister* owns the 16v....
AND the fact that your meant to be saving for a new house so you can get my sister out of here, instead your spending it on new wheels and modification bits trying to turn it into a Racer....
