well boys and girls , after a trash ,sorry thrash, around the green lanes of castle coombe i can safefully say that the latest arosa 1,4 16V (100bhp) is damn good fun http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif I will admit ,once i got it warmed up and revvin ,dropping a gear into corners and howling it in through was wicked and reccomended to anyone , i know the LEON + BEEZA are TOPS but this little car was like jumpin off a superbike and screaming a 2 stroke GP bike , i did think it would be good BUT i was overwhelmed I HAVE NEVER ever driven a car with a revvin engine that sounded SO SOLID , buy one for the missus and use it to get the takeaways , you will grin all day http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

This is the 100bhp 1.4 16v is'nt it?
I know that engine is a cracker.. In the Club Gti scene, a guy has installed this motor into the old G40 shape Polo coupe, and fitted throttle bodies and DTA ECU like mine, Tony Lawes exhaust manifold & system and it rocks! Seriously fast little motor. It went from 100bhp to 140bhp just from throttle bodies and mappable ECU. Superb designed cylinder head (unlike earlier 1.8 & 2.0 16v's sadly)
My wife is due to get her mums old Lupo, but its only a 1.0E.... she asked about a chip for it, but I offered to fit the 1.4 16v though.... on throttle bodies it would be some serious fun.
The Arosa sounds like a superb little package. wish I'd been there.

Oooh - what's that about 2 litre 16 valvers? Mind you I do remember it took VW a long time to introduce the 2 litre 16v engine and they do cost an arm and a leg to tune (trust me). I had a 1.4 8 valve Arosa demo for a while. Manual 1.4 S with (red) a body kit and 13 inch (argh) three spoke (eek) wheels. Once i got used to the embarassment of the extra plastic it was good fun. Only problem was I didnt seem to get any better MPG than my 2.0 16v Cordie.
SOLID feel - Anyone think it could be down to engine mounts - too much torque. My Cordie's coming up to 30k and i feel like the engine mounts need replacing/uprating. The engine seems to just get smooother and smoother but whacking the power down gets rougher? I used to have a D reg 1.2 IBIZA GLX - previous life (Jamex suspension etc etc cough cough - why?) which reved like buggery but went through engine and gearbox mounts like no ones business. ANYWAY i'm amazed we don't see more Arosa's about - I was well impressed with the 1.4 8v - uprate the shocks - re-map the chip - down to tesco's sorted.

You don't need to tell me about the 1.8 or 2.0 16v motor and tuning it... Sadly the head's not that good in the exhaust design, unlike the 1.4 16v's or 20v's or the Vauxhall Red top motor... (cosworth designed and it shows)

A good gas flowed head improved things a great deal, just knife edging the inlet track, de-shrouding the valves and a 3 angle valve cut. Bung in a couple of 260/276 cams map the fueling to suit and 200bhp here you come. costs money though.

The 1.4 16v works straight out of the box.
I wonder if Audi's purchase of Cosworth Engineering has anything to do with the current generation of multivalve heads working well in the current VAG cars.

Its getting better though which is nice http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

A gas flowed head and 260 inlet 276 exhaust cam combo, mapped to suit (chipped for your car) would get you a good spread of torque and peak bhp.
You should be able to get 170-180bhp out of it.
For the maximum you could always go direct to head throttle bodies and fully mappable ECU with distributer-less ignition etc... but I would say that as I do the kits. http://www.badger5.co.uk for more info if interested.

The 1.8 & 2.0 motors benefit from a good gas flowed head job. nothing wild on the intake, just knife edging the inlet split and smoothing out the port, but NOT enlarging it. Deshrouding the valves and cutting a 3 angle valve grind will improve gas flow greatly. The exhaust needs most attention to help let the gases out again.
Recon on £400-600 for a good quality head job.
If you did fit cams and gas flowed head, you would need to get the engine mapped into the new spec to get the most out of it. If chipping the factory ECU, you would be stuck with AmD more than likely, and they would have to dyno youor car to map a one off chip for you.

My own 2ltr 16v Jetta run 174bhp @ wheels with 152lb/ft of torque, 130lb/ft of which is available from 2700rpm. Not turbo pulling torque I grant you, but torquey for a 16v'er.

hope this helps
