View Full Version : Bored waiting for the car
Bored....bored.....bored.....
I know the car is on a decent delivery schedule, but boy, am i getting tired of driving my current Golf around, the golf is filthy - i can't see the point in washing it or lavishing care and attention, the car kit has developed a rattle, i can't be bothered fixing it, just turn up the radio :) the doors get slammed shut each time, speed bumps in the local retail park are taken at normal speed (might explain the extra rattles!)
I've probably got another 4 weeks of this :(
I saw an Altea the other day as it was pulling into someone's driveway - not only did i nearly crash the golf into a parked car as i was rubbernecking, but almost turned around to go back and "stalk" the car to get a closer look :)
I'm so glad i've gone for an altea - they look so different and so good on the road.
If anyone has pictures, or altea stories - please post them - this place is too quiet for me at the moment :)

It makes it all the sweeter when you pick the car up mate :D I hate to admit it, but my LCR was subjected to neglect in the run up to me getting the Elise :( It's also had to put up with being washed second in the weeks since I got the other car :(
Yesterday I got home from work, looked at it and decided to give it the works. It's a happy car now and I've remembered why I love it so! ;)

Not wanting to rub salt into the wounds but I picked up my Altea Sport today less than 2 weeks after ordering it
Drives superb and looks stunning in red. I will post some pics as soon as I get chance.
Another Altea in West Yorkshire ! - well i'm not sure its exclusive enough for me now - i may cancel :) :)
Which dealer did you get yours from Aceman ?
I'm buying through Thornes in Wakefield - they've been fine so far.
Got it fron Ted Johnsons in barnsley. I didn't even entertain thornes as they were crap when I was looking for the Ibiza and heard too many sad stories about them. Cannot recommend TJ's enough though as they have always serviced the Ibiza without fault.
how about these.....
Nice good quality piccies you got from your camera and software... I just can't get mine down in size to 100k without the last looking terrible.
OK I'll post back up my 1.5 megapixel reduced thingeys that I took of mine when it was three days old on the Mosselle just before Xmas and after.

Wonder which dealer Steve used  ...
Now if someone wants to say what is good or bad about the dealer in MK feel free since I'm think of getting mine serviced at that one rather than back in London where I live.
thanks for the pics and comments about dealers folks.
I have used Thornes, and i've read one comment that they were okay and one comment that they had missed something on a PDI or something little.
I'm a believer in experiencing things for myself rather than taking comments as gospel. So far Thornes have been friendly, efficient and polite - they have been far better than JCT600 in bradford for pre-sales.
As i'm only 4 miles away from Thornes its daft to use another dealer and inconvenience myself.
Another point to bear in mind is that with all internet based support groups / owners clbs etc, once somebody has a bad experience they immediatly write up how shockingly terrible its all been, meanwhile users/owners who get treat perfectly okay don't feel the need to compliment.
someone did once call the internet the World Wide Whinge :)
I thought it was amusing dynamics when I read the comment above Aceman but straw polls on the internet do work and i don't want to take mine to a duff place to be serviced in Milton Keynes if that's well known. It just happens to be 15 mins drive away from where mother lives when visiting, whilst the other one is through heavy London traffic and an early Saturday get up. Think I might get outer London rates perhaps up in MK for servicing.
I'm sure you will enjoy your Altea. My complaint was that I didn't get a new car smell but I got one now and it's still there, lovely. Perhaps they use some fragrance to cover it up or perhaps it develops over time, dunno.
The DSG will please in that you can just lay back and enjoy so as to speak, no need to work at anything;). You have to be a bit light footed when pulling away since there is a delay between what it thinks you are saying on the accelerator, getting the engine up to speed and putting it in gear. Two stabs at the pedal if you get inpatient result in a jerk. Other people on here have talked to me about this delay, but it's only starting from rest.
At roundabout you can get gung ho [spelling] about just pulling away where in a manual you would differ about whether you could do it. You can also make the dash for a gap in the trafic which again you would not normally do. The gears the DSG selects are perfect. Sport can bring a smile when you fancy a smile but the normal mode is sufficient.
I never use the tiptronic mode selection bit except if going down a long hill when you would normally select low gear to stop the car running away for engine breaking rather than disc braking. The sport mode I select from time to time to work the engine hard since people saying in running above 1,000 miles you should work TDI hard. Hopefully I working it hard enough:).
Well I hope those little factoids will keep you going until you get your hands on the real thing and can lay back and enjoy [B)] .
I am certainly not talking from net experiances here but people I know but enough said about that I am sure if they are OK with you they will be fine.
Bye the way steve were abouts are you as I am only 2 miles away so we must be close.
Aceman - J41 M1 - East Ardsley
Mmm, 5 minutes away then as I'm just off J40 !
