Can anyone help with this query?

"VAG quote the 1.9TDi in 90, 110, 115, 130 & 150 bhp versions. I can see the compression ratios come down as the power goes up, so the turbo pressure presumably increases. I think the 90/110/115 is the 'old pump' and the 100/130/150 is the new high pressure pump. Superchips claim the 150 can be chipped up to 185!!!! I want to know how to go from 100 to 185, possibly just injectors/boost and chip? Does anyone know?"

I'll be looking at some VAG forums, but I'd thought I'd throw it open here.

Thanks in advance,

Gaff

90/110 are pre Pump-Deuse (PD) technology.

115 was 1st PD design, followed by 130 then 150.

They're now phasing out the 90/110 and sticking a lower spec PD100 in to kinda replace them.....

Apparently the 150 is stronger internally.

You're therfore unlikely (unwise) to get up towards the 190+ that a remapped PD150 can offer. Upsolute quote 163bhp for a remapped PD130 however, and independant dyno traces suggest it's actually closer to 170.

Basic PD100 remap should see 140+, and guess 170 is possible....

FredsTDI club is a great source of info www.tdiclub.com from memory)

Thanks Mik, I'll pass that info on.

Speak to the boys of RPM on 01823 664181 either Graham or Simon we recently took our Leon TDI 110 to 140 so will be able to tune your Leon for you.

Don't you need to upgrade the clutch as well - because the chip upgrade on the 130 and 150 push torque (sharp peak in delivery) from 228lb/ft to over 300lb/ft. A MASSIVE increase in torque, way mor ethan the already massive increse in bhp. ? ? ? ? ?

Unsure of that. We dont have any problems with our 140. Can always find out and let you know.

How much is your 140 chip upgrade ?

Is it a remap or replacement chip ?

Is is customer installable or do you need to send the ECU off for the upgrade ?

The power upgrade to 140 bhp is through a piggy back ECU which is personally programed to each vehicle.
The cost of the upgrade through RPM is £450.00 fitted+vat.

Thanks for the info.

Need to consider how to get this done as I am based in N. Ireland.

Its a nice enough drive get the Sea Cat (that is if it is still running) from Belfast to Stranrah(?) then it is a nice leisurely 6 or so hour drive down here.

I don't think 130+ HP is possible with an stock 100 HP P/D.

You lack:
* A big intercooler
* A big turbo
* Better pistons

and probably also:
* Oil cooler
* big dieselpump

What you'll get when doing a upgrade: much slower response time. In my car, it takes about a second before the turbo is at full pressure (28psi or so). Your car responses more like a (non turbo) petrol now.... Except for the torque, that is.

Clutch: I'm sure Seat doesn't fit the same clutch as on a 150HP. On my car, if I rev up to 4000/5000RPM then floor it and just let go of the clutch, it just slips thru it. It doesn't get below 4000 anymore. But then again, that more due to the AWD...

More interesting TDI P/D info at www.tuneline.at --> VW news (if I remember correctly). You'll find a description of a 110 HP 'old' TDI chipped to 183 crank HP there, and what he did to get it.
:devil:

130+ has to be possible otherwise we wouldnt have a 130 TDI Sport Ibiza on the way or even our 150 when our 130 arrives.

As for the lack of turbo etc buy a bigger one.

I didn't say it isn't possible... I just told him what to do. I don't think just an turbo would be enough. You would also need an bigger intercooler to minimize soot and possibly a bigger dieselpump. You probably don't need other injectors.

Furthermore, you need to remap the ECU (which I forgot in my previous message). I heard Mark Verhoeven of EMS engineering may buy a 130HP Ibiza and tune it to 200. He now participates in Rallies with a 160 HP (or so) Ibiza TDI.

Offcourse I know it is possible: I have an Cupra4 1.9 TDI with possibly way over 185 HP since I can keep up with a Cupra4 V6 (with 240HP/19").

OI Danny! :mad:

Stop coming on here and reminding me about your car........'cos I want one! :( ;)

How are you anyway - you've not been on here for a while. :)

I don't know what has been downgraded to create the PD100, but I'd still estimate 130-140hp would be possible with a decent remap.

Above this there may be limitations with turbo/intercooler/injectors/pump-pressure etc as well as the question of the engine internals and clutch/transmission ability to handle any more than that.

Would need to look into it further before making any rash statements.....like I did in my first post! :rolleyes:

Where did you get the EGR bypass ? What does it exactly do ?

I'm asking... cause I am going to order the tdi 150 PD :D ...

and another one: how many miles/km have you done once chipped?

:cheers:

Sorry Mik, couldn't help it...

And I'm fine! You OK as well?
Reason why I was gone, just didn't have enough time (that is, I couldn't be lazy enough to go internetting all day).

You're right about the rash statement thing. I'm no engine engineer so I'm actually just guessing:D . And offcourse, in real-world, an chipped 100HP should see 130-140 HP. 130 HP is just worst case.
But, I know a small turbo that makes 1.0 bar, shouldn't run 1.8 bar. And I know that a 100 HP intercooler can't keep 190 HP of airflow as cool as 100HP or as a 150HP intercooler does. And that would leave us with a sooting tractor.

@agent,
EGR is Exhaust gas recirculator. At idle RPM, the exhaustgasses are recirculated into the intake manifold. This eventually gets sooted internally due it. Disabling it prevents the engine from doing this.
I chipped my car @20000 I guess, now having about 32000.

Hi again Danny ~ yeah I'm fine too :)

Just out of interest - why did you go for Wetteraur instead of UpSolute?

Danny
20-05-2002, 22:38
More distance, and UP didn't have a proper solderbolt 'extention piece' to do it when I visited him (and an Astra that wouldn't start anymore). So when I accompanied a fellow C4 TDI driver @Wetterauer 4 months later I thought, heck, why not making a appointment right now...

Stupidly enough Wett didn't program it right the first time (the Checksum didn't change, and they still didn't got the clue). I also got a K&N panel. So when we went testing it felt a bit faster. Not sure whether it was due that filter or partly programming?

I wasn't go to spend 800 euros for that... So after a month he called me back with an invitation to come and have it reprogrammed again. And they sure did a good job!

does anyone have big hourpower on a seat tdi - i heard the vw engines can easily be tuned to 180bhp and the torque will give an engine with serious acceleration.

what sort of perforamnce would you be looking at? greater than the curpra? greater than a tuned curpra?

mik
24-05-2002, 07:44
Look a few posts up - Danny has a remapped (by Wetteraur) TDI150 pumping out >185bhp and (at a guess) 300+lbs.ft of torque.

This will perform somewhere between a UK Cupra and a UK CupraR.

:cool:

A chipped Ibiza cupra is a bit faster than I am...

whats sort of price can a second hand td be picked up for? i know the faster onse aren't very old. do new ones hold value?

hs anyone used nitrous oxcide on their td?

Danny, A chipped Ibiza cupra is a bit faster than I am... you do 0-100 in 7 seconds - a very fast car. how kmuch smaller are your fuel bills comapred to a chipped curpra?

I run about 8.4 litres of diesel on 100 km... Sometimes a bit lower like 7.4 depending on how much slow people are around. My lowest milage record is around 13.5l I guess.

On highway going about 120 kmh I usually see about 6.4l/100km
