Hi, can you please give me a price for the gearbox on my Ibiza. 1998 1.4 SXE. Started jumping out of 5th everytime I put it into it now, and really annoying me. Also due for a service in 1000 miles so please can I have a price on that. Will be the 70,000 mile service, cambelt was done at 60k, but wasnt happy with Seat when they did it. Feels like its struggling at 60-80mph, and on hills. And thinking of uprating brakes as not happy with their stopping power. Never sure if brake fluid has been changed, which is kind of a scary thought. Had new discs and pads at 60k also i think.

Brake fluid was last done at 19,655 miles on the 11/9/01 according to service book.

Hi Andy,

We arent open today but i will ask Andy (Workshop) tomorrow and find out for you. Or alternatively you could call down or ring up and speak to Andy directly, that way you both and can explain everything in more detail.

If i'm right the service should be something like £150+VAT or something like that  as you've already had the cambelt done. If you have the service done they check over everything! brakes and fluid etc, they will have a look at the cambelt aswell for you if you ask i'd imagine.

I'll try and find out for you tomorrow though.

Cheers
Andy

after what happened last night, got a solid towbar to bring it in, so would it be ok if i brought it in tomorrow (Friday)? There is no probs if you can't look at it for a while though, its just I can get it there then.

Hi andy,

Spoke to workshop andy about the problem. Ideally it would be easiest if you could bring the car up on monday, if that isnt possible then i'll have another word and pleed your case. Basically it sounds as though your best bet is to have the gearbox rebuilt. We know an excellent place for this and they can have the job done within the week hopefully.

Now the bad stuff, all in all your looking around 4 hours labour to get the box off and then back on again when its fixed. To have the box rebuilt your lookin anywhere between £350 and £450. So worst case your hopefully lookin at around £450 + £180 + the dreaded VAT :(

Right, cheers Andy. Would it be cheaper for a new box? Gonna be expensive whatever I do I guess.
