Note that FR & Cupra aren't on there (yet) and the PR yesterday said that sportier models will have to wait til the old production is ceased (ie once the new production has ramped up)

And more New Leon pics on the media site as well

Noticed this bit
"Believing in being aware of your driving environment: cut through the darkest night with dual, Bi-Xenon headlights and a range of on-board warnings including tyre pressure sensor as standard."
Does this mean we get Xenons etc as standard or just the tyre pressure sensors?

Isnt that the .com (ie world) website though? Possibly we'll get it but wouldnt be surprised if it wasnt on the options list
SEATCupra.net #1 as per usual.
Looks good. Not quite sure what they are trying to achieve with the diagional yellow/blue colour splite, prefered the predicatable chequered flag.
Anyway, looks cool
I'm sure i just read that you said about the front spoiler staying because of WTCC rules.
???
Confused now ..
I'm surprised the WTCC car doesn't have a agressive front grille from the prototype - looks the same as the launch models except for the wide boy arches and the lower splitter.
Scott
It just keeps rolling out!

That WTCC car is PHATT!
Nice to see (as I had hoped) the sport models appear to have the very lovely Altea grippy seats.
Scott
Yup - Love the WTCC car - Hopefully there'll be a nice sporty version available by next April cos thats when I'll be getting a new car.
Did anyone that went to Thruxton see the VXR Astra on the VXR stand? What did you think? Persnonally I'd like to stick with Seat, but the VXR did look nice and would be a close second choice for me. Hopefully the FR and Cupra will do a good job in comparison. :D

yeah at first, I thought it was using the Cupra-esque/concept bumper but it isn't so I editted the post ;)
(WTCC rules state the main part of the bumper above axle line has to remain as per production)

Thats cool - doesn't say when the FR is due though, presumably at the same sort of time? All we need to know is the all important OTR prices....
Rob - Wotcar aren't exactly the fountain of all knowledge
until it's announced it's all speculation.
Hmmm - I won't get too excited then until the official announcment....
Also Spring could be any one of three months anyway, and even if they are close with that speculation it could even be summer or autumn..... Who knows eh?
Cheers Mark.
Considering there is a big hole in their sports offerings, its not unfeasible to imagine they should be rushing to get at least the FR to the showrooms. But I air on caution, the mags do like to speculate a lot, and work on hearsay too.
I prefer to publish the facts when they are announced.

Having read the threads on the new Leon for some time and being the contented
owner of a current 1.6 S ( sorry you Cupra owners but someone has to have the
bog standard version) I blew part of the annual bonus and courtesy of my friends
at BA took myself of to Barcelona yesterday to see what the fuss was about !
First poor marks for Seat. If this was the worldwide launch of the new Leon then
four locked cars when I arrived at 10.30 in a jammed hall was not pleasing the
locals very much. Made it difficult to see the car at a distance but I can alay the
fears of those who think it looks like another MPV. It is definitely lower than
the current version and wider and can be told apart from the Altea. That having
been said there is still something strange about the profile. I think it is to do
with the front doors. I think the car as far back as the B pillar is the same as the Altea/ Toledo
but then sweeps lower. Trouble is the front doors look too big in profile. Seat could have improved things here by applying matt black to the section below the doors.
Also not sure about the rear hatch. Looks smaller to me than on the current version despite
the new car being wider.
Cars on show were two 2.0FSI's and two TDI's. Not sure about spec as I
couldn't get close enough to the info screens and there was nothing
on the cars but I guess they were either the Stylance or Sport versions. All had
the Sat Nav screens on the centre console. Why is the 1.6FSI not available
I wonder ?
Returned at 2.00pm. Good news-someone had found the keys to one car
and I joined the shorter of the two queues for the pasenger seat. Fascia materials seemed to be on a par with those in the current version but not impressed with the fake aluminium on the centre console. Shame the sexy binnacle shroud which looked good on the Prototipo at Geneva has not
made it to production. Also not convinced about the switches around the hand brake-electric mirrors and windows I think. You can operate those on the current
model without taking your eyes from the road- not so easy on the new model.
As I drove home from Heathrow shame I thought the current Audi sourced fascia
cannot be continued since it clearly fits in the new model. Don't suppose that
Audi like their models being associated with the lower price Seat despite being part of the same sub group in the VW empire. The A3 has just had a mid life update and it cannot be long before it will be replaced with the A4 type
fascia so what is the problem ?
Evidence of cost cutting- two examples that I saw. The current model(yes even my bog standard S version) has a gas operated stay to easy opening and to hold the bonnet. On the new version-even the up market spec we are back to the
old fashioned manual prop! This was not just for the motor show models- the
clips and mouldings for attachment were clearly obvious. Secondly
my car has nice illuminated red/white reflectors at the bottom of the front doors
to assist when leaving the car at night. These were not apparent on the new version.
Overall for me the jury is out. I shall have to await UK spec and prices before
I replace mine. With Golfs widely available at discounts Seat are going to have
to make sure prices are keen otherwise they will lose customers.
As for you Cupra fans will you accept the power output as a trade off for
poor spec and dubious longevity of the trim ?

Hell yes ! :)
Although mine will be company so 2 year 70'000 and it's off anyway .. (if it's not written off before that anyway)
Nickbucks did you get any pictures?
Scott
Maybe a silly question, but do we have any prices for the new leon models yet?
If not, when will we see them?
I had the benefit of being there on Wednesday, and the new Leon looked great I thought, the Sport Up looked great interior wise, although as said on here very Altea in the main.
As for the Altea vs New Leon worries, I think the graphics posted on here are a bit misleading, hopefully the attached pics will give some perspective, It looked pretty lean and sleek I thought. Apologies for the crap phone photography...
Apparently the black car is going to be used in most of the launch communication, which is a good thing I think.

Its not truth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm just came from Martorel and latest news are:
October 2005-Altea FR (2.0 Turbo Fsi 200Hp)
Early 2006-Leon Fr (same engine like Altea FR)
Stronger engine or 2.0 16v Tdi (170Hp), also 1.6 Fsi is not in them agenda for this and next year :( :( :(

so what ur saying is there is no leon tdi fr and no petrol leon cupra then ?
FR for the beeging would be 2.0 Turbo Fsi
Not sure about FR with 2.0 16V Tdi with 140 Hp, but for sure, this end next year Seat not planing to put 170 Hp Tdi engine.
In the future they planing to put 3.2 litres petrol engine but this would be not earlyer than 2007.

Not what others have been told, not what dealers have been told.
Everyone else has been told
FR 2.0 FSI @ 200bhp and a 2.0 TDI @ 170bhp.
Cupra likely to be about 240bhp similar to the Astra.
And all that makes ALOT more sense than what your saying,
Leon's since they released a TDI have sold loads.... so taking the TDI away would be a backwards step.
We wait and see for the official press release i suppose.
new model looks good, hope the Fr and the cupra retain some the looks of the original concept desgin
