View Full Version : 280hp twin turbo?
Here's a bit of speculation and hearsay for you...
According to Autocar (that most reliable of sources) the new Audi TT will be getting a 280hp twin turbo version of the 2.0 FSI engine, see http://www.autocar.co.uk/news_article.asp?na_id=211530
Given the amount of engine sharing that goes on in VAG it makes you wonder if the new Leon Cupra will be getting this motor too
They'd have to change the platform to 4wd or develop an LSD to put that through the fronts of a new leon.

I did read somewhere that twin turbos will be seen on a lot more cars in the future.
Before you get excited, it's not in the same realms as the current twin turbo applications. The idea being that the manufacturers will install 2 very different turbos. One quite small and and one larger. The small turbo spools up very quickly and provides almost instant pressure while the larger unit provides the top end pressure.
Overall the power output of the engine is not increased dramatically but it will provide more useable power on the road.

Most people would have said that about 225hp! The LCR is the only car to use that engine without four wheel drive isn't it?
The new Focus ST and hot Astra have about 240 through the fronts iirc. Remapped LCR's have about 270 don't they? So is 280 really so unreasonable?

If they can twin turbo the 2.0 fsi surely someone will do a kit for the 1.8t?
Ok there wont be much increase in power but you can use it straight away like a super charger!
I think it may be an issue of space with the 1.8T?? plus ud have to fabricate a one off manifold

Or bring the small one around the front and have the large one around the back of the engine
