An hour before I was due to arrive at the dealers to collect my car yesterday, I get a phone call that goes something like this...

DEALER: Hello Mr Palmer, it's Peter here from Kings SEAT

ME: Hello Peter

DEALER: I'm sorry to be calling you Mr PAlmer, but I'm afraid I've got some not all together good news.

ME: ...go on...

DEALER: Well [cough] It's..erm..[cough]....It appears someone has clipped your wing mirror.

ME: WHAT????

DEALER: Well, erm...your car was parked just on the outskirts of our forecourt, and somebody has clipped it as they've gone pasy - there's not much damage and...

ME: (interrupting) WHAT DO YOU MEAN SOMEONE'S 'CLIPPED' MY CAR?? HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN? I HAVEN'T EVEN GOT THE CAR YET AND ALREADY SOMEONE'S SMASHED INTO IT!! WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT??

DEALER: Well, we can either of two things - we could leave the changeover time as is and ask you to come back another day...

ME: I've just taken the afternoon off work so that's not really an option....but go on

DEALER....or we could arrage for the mirror to be swapped with another vehicle we have here now, although this will delay things by a couple of hours?

So an hour it was then (not a couple afterall!) and when I arrived, true to their word, the swap had been made and I couldn't see any difference - needless to say I was relieved and eventually left feeling I was at least glad they'd been honest with me!

as you can imagine, not the greatest of beginnings! I'm hoping things go a bit smoother in the future!

At least he asked what you wanted to do.

some dealers would just park that side against a wall :p

I don't think the wing mirror would take much of a wack without damaging something - you were lucky. Somebody ran into my ZX once [the old car] and that bent the panel. These don't fold back when hit, the ZX ones did... unless someones says different. Best to get into the habit of turning them in with the switch when parked up:).

Only takes ten minutes for them to change a wing mirror ! I should know as I have had mine changed when one of the motors packed up, couldn't believe they had done so quick but all was fine.

Is the 'switch' a feature mine hasn't got? or that I just haven't found it yet??

I thought the spec of my car included parking mirrors (i.e. switch to fold them in) and also rain sensitive wipers - either I haven't figurted these out yet or they aren't there at all!! Suppose I should take a look at the manual

Suppose I should take a look at the manual

after you finished reading

turn the mirror switch round all the way and then with the engine running and the wipers on intermittent spray ya windscreenwith a hosepipe

just make sure the mrs has a chamois in hand first :p

What model was it.... the switch is between the seat under the cige lighter at the front. If you don't have electric mirrors you won't have a rain sensitive windscreen wipers for sure. I'm sorry I'm not up to speed on the latest spec of what you may or may not have. The manual suggests you have stuff that you haven't got you have to read the small print.

nice of them to be honest. I remember reading a story (maybe on pistonheads) that many new cars get damaged in transit and end up being repaired either at the importers or the dealers and you never get to know about it.

have to say, my experience of Kings has been very good

thanks for the help fl@pper - have now got the parking mirrors sorted.

will try out the hosepipe thing as well - when it stops raining! So I presume it's best to leave the wipers on as intermittent and then when the rain comes (again) they should detect and start working. Is that right?

It's on the New Toledo - got that from a UAE site where rain is a problem;) - http://www.seatuae.com/seat-news-pages/new_models/SEAT_altea.htm

Other than that your out of luck linking altea and rain sensing wipers together, not untill the Google engine find this page :p - that's what worried me about the Altea and the Quadlock I only find myself talking about it with a Google - not totally the truth... but I do find myself

Well the link was on the Altea page.... can't say I fancy a Toledo not a nice name and if it starts to rain what's wrong with using the switch.

On a positive note I did park up a road today where you get little notes pinned to your windscreen about not parking in front of my drive etc etc etc. Today someone got one in a plastic wallet [they have money round here] saying "we note that you continue to park outside of our house causing a nuisance with deliveries"..... I thought, that's great, been thinking that all week when I get back to the car knowning that the people who want to poke their notes under the wiper, will have a problem with the Altea. So far so good this week escaped from it. In the old car I didn't.
