Anyone know of any decent non-acidic Wheel cleaners that I could buy tomorrow (i.e. Halfords  ). I've got some heavy Brake dust and I don't want Pink Calipers!
Cheers!

I think he meant Wax Wizard as in MC2 wheel cleaner supplier
Oh right, well has anyone used wonder wheels? What u reckon of it?

I've used it and it eats into the surface of your alloys, so stay away from it.
Next time I need some more of this MC2 I will order from the above now then !

As per rhumber. Wonder Wheels is effective because it is agressive. It will damage the surface of your alloys sooner or later. I suspect it wins awards in the motoring comics because it is so agressive and the journo's never use it on a car for a long enough period for the corrosion to become apparent.

If you want something non acidic and works well from Halfords, buy some muck off from the bike hut section. I have been using it for years and it works a treat.
Hmmm yeh when I read the contents of the solution I saw sulphuric acid... I did chemistry at school, i remember what that stuff does! I was originally looking for simoniz wheel cleaner but thought i'd give Wonder Wheels a try...

Muck Off is awesome stuff. I use it to clean everything, but its designed for bikes, on which I have used it for a long time! Halfrauds use it to clean absolutely everything inc. their displays and cabinets :roflmao:
is autoglym wheel cleaner agressive like wonder wheels? should i stop using it and pull out the muc off?

Most wheel cleaners will be mildly acidic - it's the most effective way of braking down brake dust ('scuse the pun!) - including those ones that "smell of oranges, and are completely organic" - ever heard of citric acid?!
If I get really bad brake dust/staining I revert to Meguiars Hot Wheels - much better than any other wheel cleaner IMO, although Muck Off's good stuff too ;)

Whilst I've got Virusol, Zymol & Swissol versions etc I never use them.
Just put a layer of wax/sealant on them and the dust won't stick provided you clean them fairly regular.
Just a thought..has any one tried useing bug/tar remover to clean their wheels? might work
why can't i order any it just doesn't work for me i need some !!!!
No, I could not order from that site either! am going to try on works machine on monday May due to cookie settings etc.

I wash my car roughly twice a week but no matter what cleaner i use i can never remove these annoying black spots, you guys think Muck Off will do the trick?

I only use Muck Off and have no complaints.

:-o
My god, its true. People do clean the inside of their wheels. I thought I was doing well because I bought a specific product to clean my wheels (and a special deluxe Halfrauds brush). I am officially idle :hide:

i clean the back of my SuperL's every time and they're are still covered in black spots!! bashed knuckles every time. :censored:
got my virosol this morning from jantastic (ordered tuesday), 10L for £19.28 del'd.
Looks, smells, IS identical to MC2.
MC2 appears to have been a rip-off, just re-labelled Viro-sol and the guy charged twice as much for it. I take my wheels now periodically, usually just before a show, to clean the insides of them - the new Meguiars versa-angle wheel face brush is excellent for cleaning wheels.
Barry, try using a clay bar and some Viro-sol solution, should take the black spots right off.

Yeah, and the rest!
Baz, clay bar is a clay like bar (hence the name!) which is rubbed on your paint (using a suitable lubricant spray). The 'clay' rubs off contaminants like tar spots, sap, industrial fall-out.
Great stuff.

impressive I've always used wonder wheels and have never complained
P21S wheel cleaning gel spray is very good, followed by a good wheel wax from Poorboy's or DP, makes subsequent cleaning much, much easier.

Which reminds me:
That Muc Off is apparently a strong alkaline so presumably a bit of care required with that stuff as well.

Like virosol then, as this is alkaline in nature. Wonder if it is the same stuff? Anyone got the ingedients on the bottle for Muck-off? Just that at £20 for 5L it is 2x as much as Virsol, if I got my prices right that is.....

Izzit?
I always thought it would be acidic with it being orangey.
Virosol is not acidic, I've been using it diluted on various wheels for ages now, never caused any problems.

I was thinking acidic as in orange juice or vinegar not hydrochloric.
You mean pH 3.7-4.7 like oranges, or pH about 2 for vinegar,
as opposed to pH 1.0 for dilute hydrocloric acid, or pH 0.1 for concentrated? ;)
I've still got half a gallon of MC2 from last year which I use well diluted. Cleans the wheels well but I still have worries that it's corroding the brake discs faster than they should do.
I'd be interested in any really effective pH neutral wheel cleaner if there is such a beast.
P21S wheel cleaner says it is PH controlled, non-acid and non-lye based, can be used on any type of wheel finish including chrome and bare polished metal. I have used it and it certainly doesn't feel or smell acidic at all, very effective too.

So which is the best to go for, Muc Off, Virosol or P21S?
P21S is probably the most gentle of the three, does clean very well though.
