hey everyone,

Today while cleaning the wheels i decided to take a look underneath the altea. Basically, the other day i scrapped the front splitter (think thats what it is called) while existing a garden centre. only a scrape, nothing to worry about.
anyway, i noticed if you look underneath from the front of the car by the drivers side front wheel there is a plastic cover across the bottom of the engine. i saw some oil on this. opened the bonnet and took a look (left hand side). i could not see any leaks but could see the top side of this cover. Using a torch i could see a bit of oil. Again not much but enough to get you thinking. Where could it be coming from. it does not drip onto the floor and the engine oil level is ok.

any ideas? it is the 2.0TDI. Also, which oil should i use for top ups in this engine should i need it? is it a trip to the dealers to investigate? sorry for the long description.

cheers

You need the special PD specific oil, available from any VAG dealer (Seat/Skoda/VW/Audi) though I think Millers make a PD oil now as well...

For the oil you will find the handbook makes reference to a VW oil standard for your car e.g. VW505.01 etc........when you find the number check here

I recently looked under my TDI ALtea, for the same reason as you. I found some oil at each front corner. I took off the engine cover and found a slight wimper at the hose connections to the intercooler. Could not tighten the clips any tighter. Will raise it with my dealer next time I am passing, some 36 miles awat.

booked in at the dealers (13/06) to investigate where this oil could be coming \ came from. it does not seem to be leaking much or at all as i cleaned the area. none has returned. just want to put my mind at ease. i will let you know the outcome.

Nothing to worry about , when the oil filter is replaced you get some run off which lodges between the slight lip between the sump and the engine. When the engine is hot this oil thins and can drip on the bottom engine cover .

Happened to me twice mate.

thanks mate - let's hope not. Although the oil filter should not have been replaced yet as the car is new and only done 5000 miles.
