View Full Version : Space for a Family of 5
Does anyone use the Altea for families of 5?
Thinking of two boosters and a car sea in the rear?

Not myself, but a colleague took his family to a test drive of the Altea Sport, and when trying to seat 3 in the back there was complaints from anyone who sat in the middle, as the sports seats have quite large "bolsters" even in the back, so the middle person ends up sat in an awkward position, with about 9" of flat cushion and the bolsters from the two outside seats to put up with.
I think the stylance and reference seats are better for 5 in the back, however if you little'un has a seat that can be isofixed to the centre of the rear seats, then i'd imagine that you'd be happy with sports trim.

The Sport is not ideal for 5 of any size, which I guess is why SEAT keep well away from calling it an MPV (or indeed a mini Mpv) - the bucket sports seats really do turn it into a rather spacious 2+2

I often take 5 in mine and my 12 year old actually prefers the middle seat in the back ,even though its narrower, as she can see out the front because its slightly higher up.
This won't suit everyone, I know. I did have the odd worry as My last car was a Fiat Multipla which sat 6 in complete comfort as long as you did not engage in spirited cornering. Absolutely not a problem with the Altea!!

You may struggle with a car seat in the middle, I'm at "2x car seats and a booster" and the middle is really too narrow for a child seat back, but in some ways is ideal for a child with a booster (or without if old enough) as the bolsters are more "child's shoulder width" than adult's.
Fairly sure the ISOFIX is only on the outer two seats, so put an ISO seat there and booster in middle and other side I guess.....

Nov,
You are going to struggle with this combination, i have used mine with Britax car seat to one side and booster seat to the the other but the second booster seat will not fit easily in the middle especially if it is of the bulkier Britax type. On the few occasions we have had to do it the eldest sits in the middle without booster, it is cosy though. Luckily we have the Alhambra for family trips, if we had not i would have definitely had to give more careful thought to car choice. My Octavia had more accomodating width but the kids sat a lot lower .
