Hey all,

I have been reading vwvortex.com and been following a few threads regarding surging and wastegate solenoids (N75).

My car surges - RSD are looking at it next week. Until then I am not going to touch anything. However, I wonder if anyone has thought about or looked at any of the following:

Stock N75 adjustment.
Apparently you can 'cure' your surging and even give your car more power (if you are'nt surging) by changing the screw on the side of the N75. Some appear to be glued by the factory, others are free to move (they are fragile though!!). Has anyone tried adjusting theirs - did it work??? I have read that the car may adapt to suit the new setting after a few miles and surging will return - any comments?

ECS (other) N75.
A company called ECS (USA) sell a replacement N75 that allows more boost and alledgedly fixing surging. Firstly has anyone fitted one of these yet? Do you know of a UK supplier? Secondly I have heard that the ECS is basically a standard part from one of the other VW stables (Audi, VW, Porche???). Does anoyone know if we can use a TT225's N75 for example to get the same results?

I'll let you know what RSD diagnose...

Cheers - Rich

I've currently got an ECS valve on order, I thought I'd give it a go seeing as it wasn't too expensive. I'll post up once Ive got it to let you know what it's like.

AFAIK the ECS valve doesn't orginate from any current VAG model. It could always be a porsche part though.

I would be interested in how RSD get on with adjusting the valve. When mine had similar surging they adjusted the wastegate actuator rod...?

VWVortex has had many a thread about the N75 valve.. As it controls the boost level to the wastegate, it would seem the device to look at.. Mine sticks I think and gives me 5psi moments which is "crap" when you're mid-overtake !!!

Bill

wastegate actuator rod...?

Sounds like the same thing to me...

I am looking forward to what they diagnose...hoping to ask a few q's whilst I am there.

Danny adjusted the wastegate actuator rod on my beezer and it did smooth out the boost delivery and the surging went. It was not why the car went back to them for though... lack of power was/is the fault, but it came back smoother with exactly the same power.

There was said to be some discrepency between the settings of actuators apparently at that time, according to Oettinger HQ.

It did nothing for my power but did improve the smoothness at the time.
Good luck.
